Was this the Gulf War movie with Tobey Maguire and Jake Gyllenhaal? :: Checks IMDB :: Yep. See, I was thinking of that movie specifically when I made the snarky comments toward her. Myself, I thought that Tobey Maguire and, especially, young Bailee Madison pretty well owned that movie.
Certainly “Jap” is an offensive term when refering to Japanese folks, but is “JAP”, the acronym for “Jewish American Princess/Prince”, offensive? I’m Jewish myself, and I’ve heard it commonly used by Jews refering to themselves or each other. I’ve never thought of it as offensive.
I voted “hot”. I am ust going off looks. I could really not care less about the veganism or Polanski crap, I will never have her over for a dinner party. I just want to bend her in ways that would make Gumby scream.
I’m not Jewish, and I consider it offensive. It may be a term like “nigger” that members of the group are comfortable using among themselves – but I think, like “nigger,” one should avoid using it on a public message board.
If anyone wants to discuss the offensiveness or lack thereof of this term, please start a new thread in IMHO (or GD? or the Pit? I have no idea how heated the discussion might be).
In this thread, the issue is a hijack.

According to Wiki, she changed her name to her grandmother’s last name. But anyway, Natalie Portman has gone up and down in weight over the years and I suspect her ballet training and movie role had something to do with her body. She may be thin, but it takes some serious strength to be a ballerina. I think she looks fucking hot on her wiki page. She does it for me way more than Angelina Jolie, who used to be the number one crush for straight women before all the damned kids. (And man-stealing. Who doesn’t love Jennifer?!)
I voted pretty. I have heard she is extremely smart, but she did not come across that way to me in her Oscar acceptance speech. She seemed rather dense to me. Mostly I find her forgettable.
I do think she is a good actress though.
Beautiful to me is Angelina Jolie. Now she brings out the Bi in me. hubba hubba.
No prob. Will do.
For those who need more data, here’s a StyleList photogallery of NP over the years: AOL Style News, Trends and Advice - AOL.com
FWIW, I don’t consider the name Portman to be “Jewish-sounding.” Our uber-boring U.S. senator, a Methodist, is named Portman: Rob Portman - Wikipedia
Is bastard filling tasty, Skald?
I think she is a pretty girl. I chose ‘pretty’ in the poll.
However I think there are several odd things about her appearance, and personally I do not find her very good-looking (as in, I enjoy gazing upon her), and I don’t think she’s sexually attractive at all.
But she’s objectively good-looking enough that I would expect most people to find her pretty, beautiful, and hot, rather than ‘not’.
I don’t find her pictures to capture her as especially pretty. I think she’s prettier in motion. That’s why I prefer the word “attractive.” When she’s acting well, she’s attractive to me.
Currently she’s 8 months pregnant, and looks to me more like she would bounce if she sat down too hard.
She did have to get really skinny for her role in Black Swan, which is where she met her babydaddy.
I preferred Gyllenhaal’s performance myself, though I usually find him annoying for reasons I can’t articulate.
How the hell would I know? I don’t eat either myself or other persons born Rhymer.
The term “objectively good-looking” is meaningless except when applied to Athena.
She has stunning eyes.
Beautiful, though in a kind of generic way. Nothing wrong with that, though I can’t recall what she looks like without looking her up. She has a very delicate bone structure and general tinyness, but hasn’t drawn attention to that fact, so it’s less noticeable, and thus she’s less memorable, than she could be. (I remember Natalie Imbruglia)
As for hotness . . . well, same answer, really. She’s at an average level of hotness for a woman of her attractiveness level. But I really haven’t seen her in much, so maybe I’m acting on incomplete information. Were she to do porn, I wouldn’t actively seek it out.

I’d say Scarlett Johannison’s genericness and complete lack of smart=sexy ruined the Black Widow, but honestly, being rewritten as the shallow love interest for Capitan America 2: America HARDER! had already done that.
It’s the most accurate way I have of describing the many people who I understand are unusually physically attractive in terms of facial structure, features, and figure, and that most other people may love to look and want to touch, yet who I personally find so bland as to be invisible, or downright ‘unattractive’ sexually or otherwise.
If you’re picking on my use of the word ‘objectively’; please see 3a.
I’m drinking the Portman-ade. By which I mean I wish I was Mila Kunis in that scene.
She’s got a mystical it-factor IMO. She’s smart as hell, talented, and adorable. I’ve loved her ever since Leon. And the fact that she did a Lonely Island song gives her 50k cool points in my book.
Actually she looks a lot like [POST=“6161638”]Wil Wheaton[/POST].
I don’t know what Lonely Island song means, but it makes me think of Tolkien, which is relevant to the thread because elvish is the word that comes to mind when I think of describing her. It fits in with your mystical remark, and explains why I find her heart-thumpingly beautiful but only moderately hot.
