National Iguana Awareness Day

This link may not work on Sunday the 10th, so if anyone knows how to link directly to that article, I’d be very grateful, otherwise this may not make any sense once the newspaper’s website is upgraded.

This, of course, begs the question “WHY?” Why do iguanas get their own freakin day? Where’s my day? I’d like to think I’m a little more special than an iguana, especialy since I have thumbs and can walk upright and have the ability to use and make tools, etc. Apparently, iguanas need a whole day to help end impulse igunana buying and proper care of iguanas in captivity.

I’m sorry, I’m sure this is a problem, but impulse iguana buying? I’ve never seen anyone at the store suddenly grab an iguana and go, “Wow, a lizard that sits around all day - I gotta have this!” Now I’m sure that people have bought an iguana without thinking about all the special needs of the lizard, but it’s like that for any pet. I don’t know where I’m going with this, but the idea of iguanas having their own day struck me as silly.

I hereby announce tomorrow (have to spare today for the lizards, you know) the official National Goldfish Awareness Day. Too many people are buying goldfish on a whim, or winning them at carnivals without thinking of the proper care needed for a goldfish in captivity. We must stop over-feeding these poor creatures, just a pinch of food is enough! And those bowls! Make sure the little fishy has room to swim around and put those fins to good use. But I’ll wait till tomorrow to deliver the entire Goldfish Manifesto, as today is the Day of the Iguana.

(requested link help)The article in question!

Dear Friend Of Iguanas,
Thank you for your comments regarding National Iguana Awareness Day. As you know, many people are unaware of iguanas, often causing surprise when an iguana is encountered. Would you be willing to be an “Iguana-teer” in your neighborhood? We would ask that you hang our posters in your area. The posters have a picture of an iguana and the legend “This is an iguana.” Hopefully, this will create awareness.

                       Thank you,
                  National Iguana Association.

Thanks for the link, Chief. I did a quote and looked at what you did. I had tried the same thing, but my link didn’t work. Anyway, thanks for the assist.
