Naxos Is From An Alternate Universe

Sorry. I was carried away. Treat what I say as arguments from an average person.

Religion being a disease is not because I say it is.

It is because when considering the past 10,000 years of recorded human history, this is what an independent observer will eventually conclude… that religion is a mental disorder.

It’s not because I say it is. It’s because it is.

What Naxos and Der Trihs suffer from.

Regards,
Shodan

Can you give me an example of an independent observer?

Terms like “fundamentalist” apply only to theists or conservatives or both, or people who choose to be destructive and hurtful and want to be absolved of the responsibility of their actions.

They hurl that term to others to avoid being evaluated for what they themselves support, the exploitation of other people.

You got “carried away” into claiming you have credentials that you don’t have?

The “average person” on the SDMB does not get away with “It’s a disease because it is.”

Ok, I’m done. The OP is right, Naxos deserves this Pitting. You all have a nice evening. I have an episode of Game of Thrones to watch.

I watched one episode of that thing. Absolute, utter trash, that it is.

What a waste.

Is not!

One thing I need to give you credit for is having a great efficiency for hate. I don’t think anyone else here can squeeze as much poison into as few words as you can.

Thank you.

Since most consumption oriented objects are utter trash, I just call it what it is.

It’s amazing to think that several billions of helium atoms came together to assemble an object, like a human being, that only exists to consume objects.

By the way, I don’t hate. “Hate” is a religious term and thankfully I’m free of that sickness.

I’ve seen things you people wouldn’t believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Posts of Naxos.

Fundamentalism is a rigid adherence to the (typically, literal interpretation of), one’s religious scriptures. As such, it is not possible for there to be an “atheist fundamentalist” because there is no scripture which an atheist can be said to follow.

OTOH, the more slang term “fundy,” indicating a person consumed with his or her own self-righteousness, from which perspective he or she is supremely comfortable condemning those who do not share the same philosophical beliefs, is quite appropriate when combined with “atheist” and you are an excellent example of a fundy atheist.

Hmmm… is love a religious term? Is lust a religious term?

Labels are stupid.

People that claim to adhere to unsubstantiated claims of supernatural entities are stupid.

End Of.

Stupid is as stupid does.
You continually make unsubstantiated claims, ergo. . . .

N/m

  1. Der Trihs is way more entertaining than Naxos.

  2. Way way way way more entertaining.

  3. Naxos: FYI: this is a pretty run of the mill pit thread. Several pages of slinging insults.

  4. Naxos: You have not substantiated your claim that religion is a mental disease. All you’ve really done is call it a name. I trust there’s an argument to be made for that, but you haven’t made it.

  5. Given that the vast majority of humanity throughout history has practiced some religion, calling it a disease is rather silly. You might call it a “Cancer on humanity”, but that’s just empty name-calling as well.

  6. I dunno how the cost/benefit of Christianity works out: AFAIK, we’ve never had a successful thread on that topic.

All valid points. And I’d add:

  1. If you’re going to claim any special expertise on an issue, you’re going to have to do more than post that you have expertise. Tell us where you acquired your knowledge of religion and psychology so we can determine if your credentials are valid.

Better yet, make an argument that someone of a professional caliber could recognize.

Or at least try for any argument at all, even if it’s a crappy one. We won’t…ok, we will laugh at you and mock you, but at least you’re putting yourself out there.
