I just noticed watching tonight’s Bulls vs Nets game, Nets are sporting “New York” on the front of their jersey. Did they always have “New York” on their jersey or did I miss out on something?
They are moving to Brooklyn next year.
They are currently the New Jersey Nets. Either you mistook what their jerseys said or they’re pushing something that isn’t correct.
Throwback uniforms. The Nets were based in New York from 1968 to 1977 and they’ll be the Brooklyn Nets starting next season.

No, I definitely saw them wearing New York jersey tonight.
Yes, they were wearing throwback uniforms that looked like the uniforms worn by the New York Nets in the American Basketball Association. When the ABA and NBA merged, the Nets, Spurs, Pacers and Nuggets joined the NBA, and the Nets moved to New Jersey.
Even though the Flint Tropics as the 4th best team and not the Pacers deserved to go with the Nets, Spurs and Nuggets.
Eh, it’s not much of a change. The Nets play in Newark, just across the Hudson. They are for most purposes already a 2nd New York team. The Giants and Jets play just up the road in Jersey as well. The Nets aren’t moving to Manhattan, they’ll just be on the opposite side of the island, though I suspect most New Yorkers will be happier to root for a team with Brooklyn on the front as opposed to New Jersey.
I don’t see most New Yorkers giving a crap about another NY team besides the Knicks, the Nets are more likely going to be the east coast Clippers.
Football and baseball stadiums havenhuge footprints, so unless they were already built within a community, like ebbetts field, I doubt you’ll ever see a team on manhattan. MSG works for hockey and basketball because it’s a square building that takes up space used all year long.
However, I think if the jets and giants play in new jersey, their names should reflect that. I know why they don’t, (new jersey ANYTHING sounds awful, plus historic reasons,) if I were NJ I would try to force the teams to change their names just to tweak their noses a bit.

I’m glad the nets are moving to brooklyn. If only the Devils would make the move…
