Throwback unies,why?

I see the Nets are wearing DrJ style 70’s uniforms tonight. To this cynic it is only to sell more merchandise. There can’t be any other reason, can there? No, I don’t buy psychological or emotional lift. As I post this the Nets are down by 9 w/ 6 minutes to go.

I agree with you.

Labron James should have been disqualified here in NOrthern OHio over throwback jerseys that he got fro free.
They are the rage this year. My kids each needed one. And got them.

Marketing.

Oh, is there a game on tonight?

Go Mavs 2003!

(Yeah, go ahead, tell me they suck. Whatever.)

No! Be nice. At least I’m into sports!!

This year’s finals is a matchup of old ABA teams, the Nets jerseys are probably a tribute to their ABA incarnation.

No, it’s to make money. The same reason the Lakers play in those white abominations every once in a while.

Jimmy -good point. I recall Julius & George announced in San Antonio. Let’s see if Spurs have the retro look on Sunday. BTW, my cynicism has some basis. The biggest seller was Bulls w/#23-red & white. Then when every kid had each, the Bulls began w/ black. Now we have Lakers w/#8-Gold & Blue. Then, the Lakers began wearing white on Sun home games. Stern is the $$man.

Blonde-obviously I’m not watching too closely if I’m sitting here.

Of course it’s to make money, too. The NBA’s always going to try to squeeze some more merchandising out of the Finals, considering that it’s their biggest showcase, even if it’s not overwhelmingly entertaining. Hell, this year’s not even whelmingly entertaining. ** doctordoowop,** you forgot the Minneapolis #8 Kobe jersey they brought out this year.

Actually, I don’t think this year’s finals are being a very good showcase…haven’t they dipped below 5%?

Jimmy Chitwood, I sure did. I don’t knock it, just think its for $$, & nostalgia is along for the ride. Hey there is a company that puts out many retro jerseys, I have a West & a Baylor. I’m ahamed how much I paid.

I don’t mind the look of the throwback jerseys, its their price that gets me. Paying $300 and up for any team’s uniform shirt is just crazy.

That’s why I’m ashamed,PatrickM

I opened this wondering why people would be throwing undies.
::blinks::

…especially when you can just wash them, no?

What do the retro ones look like? The jersey George Gervin was wearing before tipoff in Game 1 was retro wasn’t it? But it looked essentially the same as what they wear now.

As for the contemporary uniforms, could the shorts get any bigger? The last time the Lakers won the final, I saw a picture of some of them standing up in a convertible in the victory parade. Combined with the jerseys their shorts looked like yellow sundresses!

Good point- Spurs early 70’s- can’t recall. Maybe like Celtics -no change.
