Has anyone been watching Whitney? I thought I’d give it a chance since it’s on the Thursday sitcom lineup and Whitney Cummings seemed so adorable in her interview with Marc Maron.
But, yech, this show is horrible. And mostly it’s horrible because of Whitney and that Richard Lewis wannabe of a boyfriend. Actually, the supporting cast isn’t all that bad. I like the other four friends quite a bit.
I just found out that Cummings is also the genius behind Two Broke Girls, which I haven’t seen yet.
It’s a horrible PoS. It might as well have been on in the '80s right after Alf. Her horrible smirking reaction to every line said to her is as grating as Brett Butler’s was on the equally shitty Grace Under Fire.
I’m watching both of those sitcoms, and they’re both growing on me. They’re not as good as “Happy Endings” or “New Girl,” but they seem to be getting better.
As a woman who is constantly battling her weight, I automatically hated it because she’s so skinny. I’m sorry, but none of that character’s “quirks” would have been “lovable” if she was my size.
To damn it with faint praise, it’s better than “Whitney.”
Actually, it’s better than a lot of things - there have been some awful sitcoms that made it to the airwaves in spite of themselves. But no, “Two Broke Girls” isn’t good.
I find it even more disconcerting that Whitney is following 3 quality, single camera sitcoms Community, Parks and Recreation (Or Parks and Rec as I like to call it), and The Office. These three shows don’t stop to allow for a laugh track or pause for mugging (with the exception of reacting to the camera, which characters in The Office like Jim often do. Whitney feels out of place there and I agree with earlier statements about Whitney’s smirking and mugging. Right now the show is doing a little too much declaring and reacting to lines as opposed to building the scenes and generating the humor within the developed framework.
I would also have a very difficult time just rolling my eyes and saying “Oh Whitney” if she purposely mixed the cremated remains of my beloved dog with another as a joke. A lot of that quirky stuff just doesn’t ring true to me.
I like the boyfriend OK and I think he’s kind of charming. I don’t like the police character so much because I find it ridiculous that they’re mining such easy laughs out of him being supposedly the worst cop in Chicago.
Eh, I don’t think the show is that good, but I don’t think it’s too awful either. If they figure out a way to improve it and Whitney gets a little more natural in front of the camera, I’d be happy, but if it crawls to a death and is cancelled after this season, I won’t gnash my clothes and rend my teeth about it.
Not one, but two. Looking at her wikipedia page, I don’t see any particular reason for this except she is possibly rich and well-connected, and apparently quite intelligent. I don’t see any marriage to the head of NBC.
I actually like the leads (although Whitney Cummings transition to Skeletor is disconcerting but guaranteed to have been network mandated) but find the supporting characters to be the worst sitcom stock characters even imagined.
I think the relationship between them seems more honest than the “wacky hijinks” she’s gets into. If the show were a single cam, I think we’d accept the lack of jokes. Presented as a classic three-camera set up… it seems lackluster.
I like Whitney, but I’m one of those crazy abnormal people. I would rather stick a fork in my eye than watch Seinfeld, and while I recognize the quality of The Office, on a personal level I would rather jump off a cliff than watch it. At least I can have BBT on as background noise.
