That’s the death knell. Which sucks, as this show is bumblebee’s patellae.
Well that’s horribly lame. But, Grimm’s still around, so there’s still hope.
Random question: do all the new comedies sound like they suck or is it just because of the way they’re written?
I am kinda excited for Revolution. I’ve been obsessed with EMPs for years now, so hopefully I’ll like it.
The AV Club doesn’t seem too worried.
“Greenblatt’s primary reason for the move seems to be shoring up Grimm, which has turned into one of the network’s bright spots and is the highest rated scripted show on Fridays. And, indeed, this makes a certain amount of sense, since the two series court roughly similar audiences and could help each other in certain ways. Community’s audience is nothing if not loyal, and if even 75 percent of it follows the show to Fridays, it could, conceivably, run there for years to come at its current budgetary level.”
Community has cut it’s own throat with poor writing and using creativitiness instead of actual creativity. If they a season of their good shows, it would be a hit. But the current rate of 10% quality and 90% headscratchers will continue to turn off viewers. It is a show that could survive a la carte TV viewing if there were a way to generate the proper revenue, but as things are now, next season will be it’s last, and perhaps not even a complete season.
This is a good time to mention that Dan Harmon isn’t signed to helm the show next year, and they’re actually looking at the possibility of replacing him as showrunner.
I guess we haven’t hit the era where DVRs and Tivo and Hulu and Netflix has made it irrelevant when a show airs.
Not if you believe Yahoo.
They ran an article reccently and they claim Grimm is gone as is Harry’s Law and Awake.
Everyone’s missing the obvious question here…
Whitney got renewed???!! How in the holy hell was that allowed to happen?
I’ll certainly never watch it on a Friday, so the extent that this is necessary to give the show a chance it seems bad. If they are ok with me watching it Saturday morning, then fine.
That’s really the thing. Community’s ratings are poor already because it is one of the most time shift viewed showed on TV. Almost everyone who watches it watches on DVR (or some other not actually live TV way) and so it get’s no ratings, but it clearly has an audience. On Friday’s it won’t have any competition and will likely win its time slot easily, while at the same time continuing to be a highly time shifted show. It’s likely a win for everyone, though if Dan Harmon leaves that could be real trouble. An NBC exec hinted that he might stop his show running duties, but that’s not anything real yet.
I think it is better. There are lower expectations for Friday so it could hide on that night for a season 5 possibly. The Harmon stuff is more troubling. His is the voice of the show plus two other writer producers have already left. What good is getting the show back if it becomes unrecognizable? Hope he sticks around.
If the audience is loyal enough to stay with it, getting X million viewers on Friday is viewed as better than Thursday, right? So it may actually prolong the show, as the viewership comes closer to matching expectations with the slot its in. Friday moves usually kill shows - but a show with a really passionate audience would have a chance, since people would go with it.
I could not disagree with the first two sentences here more.
Grimm received its renewal way back in March. Exactly how old is the story that you are referring to?
A move to Friday doesn’t bother me. Dan Harmon not at the helm? That’s the deathknell.
Nope, we haven’t yet hit the era where advertisers care more about total number of people watching a show matter more than total number of people watching it “live” (and therefore watching their commercials, in theory).
And a lot of those new shows sound pretty awful. I’m thinking those new Tuesday sitcoms are gone in weeks. Some of the midseason ones sound even worse. 1600 Penn? Be lucky to get 1600 viewers.
Rock Center Thursday at 10? Buh? Why not at least try Grimm there and see how it does on a real night?
Friday night is where you plug in shows to reach people that don’t go out on the weekends. Namely, shows that reach lonely middle-aged women and shows like Community that have a “niche” audience (re: Nerds… sorry), who probably don’t get out a lot either.
So Grimm is in just the right spot.
It was about a week ago - let me see if I can find it…
We have different opinions, but that’s ok. If you like the show, I hope you get to continue seeing it.
Fringe is on Frid… I see what you did there…
