Well, if it meant saving the show from getting even worse, perhaps not a bad decision.

Hopefully it’ll continue on something like Hulu or Netflix as the Variety article postulates.
I nominate this for fastest thread merge in the history of thread merging.
I really liked the show and I’m sorry to see it go but it’s been limping along for quite a while. I’m interested in hearing Harmon’s take on it on his podcast.
I also wonder if it can be picked up elsewhere.
This season was a disappointment – even worse than last. I thought Harmon might breathe life in it, but instead it tended to repeat itself.
When Donald Glover left, there was nothing left.
Too bad. Season 3 was one of the best seasons of any show on US network television.
I wish we had a better finale but otherwise I think I am okay with this. The one I am sad about is Suburgatory. A good show that no one will care enough about to try and save.
Or there will be a Kickstarter campaign to get a movie made (hey, it worked for Veronica Mars) - #HowAboutFiveSeasonsAndAMovieThen.
So an asteroid destroyed the earth.
And it’s canon…
While this season started out with well, and even has one of my favorite episodes, it just sank after that. Very disappointed in Harmon’s return.
The show was barely being kept alive thanks to serious fan interest (which doesn’t translate into Nielsen ratings but does bring in money via streaming, DVDs and syndication). NBC must be seeing the fall-off of fan interest and is cutting its losses.
Doesn’t even bode well for a cable channel pickup. No 6 seasons and a movie.
I used to say that Community was the best comedy on TV and Mad Men the best drama. And Alison Brie is in both. But not anymore.
The frequency of good episodes has declined steadily. It had to end.
I wouldn’t mind a show with Dani Pudi, Jim Rash, Yvette Nicole Brown, Allie Grant (Lisa), Chris Parnell and Alan Tudyuk. Maybe they can all work in a zany factory together.
I’d watch the everloving crap out of that.
I still think that just by making the final episode happen mostly in Abed’s head, it would have improved it. Not made it great, but better than what it was.
Anyway, I agree Harmon didn’t breath the life back into it that it needed. I read somewhere that he split his show-running duties with someone else, so I wonder how much control he actually had.
I would not be shocked if Netflix picks it up and does something incredible for a sixth season.
Just let them do all the weird themed episodes they can think of.
Apparently their syndication deal with Hulu and Comedy Central ties their hands and makes that unlikely. Hulu and Comedy Central are essentially the only hopes to resurrect it.
I like the show but it’s time has come.
I think it never recovered from Harmon’s sacking. It messed up something about its essential chemistry and they weren’t able to get it back.
I still enjoyed it, even if the earlier seasons were better (that would apply to most shows). I was surprised at all the harsh criticisms in the episode threads here. Maybe because I didn’t particularly miss Troy or Pierce, or I stopped taking the internal arcs seriously halfway through S1. Either way, still better than most other shows. Meanwhile, the Big Bang Theory is gonna get like 200 episodes, isn’t it? Ugh.
Turns out Chevy Chase was the vital magic. Who knew?
More sad that I won’t particularly miss the show than that it won’t continue.
