I believe the argument goes that librul commie gay-loving, abortion-allowing countries without morals tend to have lower birth rates, therefore, if we embrace gay marriage, civilization will end. Because allowing gay marriage reduces respect for traditional marriage or something, and therefore people stop getting married and procreating. It’s no less rational than a lot of other things Christians believe, I suppose.
If y’all do, I will give you a “TAR HEELS RULE!!!” shout that they can hear in Georgia. (And I’m in upstate NY.)
Obviously it will encourage gay men to enter into unhappy sham marriages with women, which result in the production of babies at a somewhat higher rate than a gay marriage would.
So will I, here in Pittsburgh. I will have to take back a lot of the teasing I’ve given Mr. Neville about being from North Carolina. That won’t be so great, but it would be worth it.
John Mace:
Hell, 10 years ago, how would such a vote have turned out in NEW YORK or CALIFORNIA?
Ten years? Try four.
Actually, from what I’m reading, the poor wording is hurting the pro-gay side. People don’t understand the wording and assume it just bans gay marriage. What it does is BAN EVERYTHING (e.g. domestic partnerships). Polling shows that the pro-gay side does better when the amendment is explained clearly.
I know. Waaaay too many Mexicans in Arizona!
Miller:
No argument there. Just pointing out that the image of redneck southerners that John Mace’s post was invoking is a bit of a narrow view. Gay marriage is an issue that even in states generally considered liberal (yes, I know, Vermont and Hawaii excepted) wouldn’t have been “progressive” enough to favor.
I’d like to beat the homophobia out of this guy.
I’d like to defend this guy. He really shouldn’t be blamed for his words because he’s a moron. And I think he actually spouts this homophobic crap because he is suppressing his desire to fuck sheep. He’s also using all the violent rhetoric because he’s a coward and only gets to speak his mind when he’s backed by a hateful mind. So all of you should be giving this piece a shit of break, he can’t help it.
We should change our state motto to North Carolina only 4 years behind New York in social progress.
Hey, leave Scotty McCreery out of this!

Considering our speculation about this guy’s orientation, I find the state motto very fitting: “To be, rather than to seem.”
I wouldn’t bet on gay marriage being legal in North Carolina in 2015.
Awfully hard to punch a ballot with a cracked wrist.
What?
My immediate reaction is that such a law would be unconstitutional on its face. Loving v. Virginia made that extremely clear. They could pass it, but it would be overturned so quickly North Carolina’s collective head would spin.

Can we beat the ignorance, stupidity, cowardice, and desire to fuck sheep out of him, in addition to the homophobia? It ought to work about as well as beating the gay out of anybody else.
This guy is a Christian preacher, and as such must be familiar with the Golden Rule. If he advocates beating others, we can infer from that that he would like to be beaten.

Yes. That makes perfect sense. If you can beat the gay out of someone, surely you can beat the dumbfuck out of a preacher.

Please don’t. I really want the amendment to fail.
