NC Preacher advocates beating the gay out of kids

 Uh, yeah, so do I. Which is why I told YWalker I’d give him a shoutout if he and his fellow Tar Heels manage to defeat it.

What part of that wasn’t clear? Or have I been whooshed by some point you were making that was too subtle for me?

I despise the Tar Heels, and am pathologically predisposed to prevent their promotion.

Ah, I see. From your link, though:

Sorry Maus, but there’s no blinking the fact that you yourself are a Tar Heel too! Mua-ha-ha-ha.

If it makes you feel better, though, I promise to root for the Blue Devils in any UNC/Duke sporting contests of which I ever have any cognizance.

Tar Heel by heritage, Wolfpack by the grace of Og.

How about, instead of beating the stupid out of this preacher, we do the Christian thing, and love the stupid out of him?

Sampiro’s pretty close, right? Hey, Sampiro, is this guy your type? Just… dress all sexy and flaunt yourself, and you’ll have a makeout party in no time.

Yeah, my first thought was along the same line.

Here’s one of the tweets from the cite:

#ToMyUnbornChild if your gay or retarded I will kill you”

The second possibility is interesting. Does this show fear of possible future competition in the family?

Don’t, it just turns him on more.

Whoa, there. If someone volunteers to throw themselves on a grenade, that’s their choice, and we can salute their heroism. Asking someone to do it is just not on.

Well, here in Minnesota, the Democratic-Farmer-Labor party delegates passed a plank at the State Party Convention in favor of allowing gay marriage – in June, 1972 – 40 years ago!

But now we are facing a Republican-backed Constitutional Amendment on the November ballot, and a fair chance that it may pass.

[For years, one of our State Legislators held off their “Marriage shall be valid only between one man and one woman” bills by threatening that she would amend it on the floor to add “for life”, and that she could get enough democratic votes to pass that. And those Republican legislators (some on their 2nd or 3rd wife) knew that outlawing divorce in this would lead to its’ inevitable defeat.]

They’ve been trying to spank the gay out for a while now. It’s funny till it is sad that you realize the guy is having a mental breakdown right in front of you.

Have these types of amendments EVER failed? Even in Florida which requires 60%, it passed in 2008.

Yes. New Mexico and Pennsylvania both defeated a proposed constitutional amendment prohibiting same-sex marriage earlier this year.

I seriously doubt that was real.

I meant by voters.

 Elected legislators voted to reject each of the two proposed amendments I mentioned.

Are you trying to ask specifically whether a popular referendum or ballot initiative proposing a state constitutional amendment to prohibit same-sex marriage has ever been defeated at the polls?

If so, I don’t know of any such cases.

A constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage and civil unions failed in Arizona in 2006. However, an amendment banning just marriage (without the part saying that “no legal status for unmarried persons shall be created or recognized by this state or its political subdivisions that is similar to that of marriage”) passed two years later.

Reminds me of the time one of my BIL’s friends said that if he had a gay son he would “beat him straight.” I really hate that fucking guy.

I think beating his hypothetical son off until he’s straight would be of limited therapeutic value.

Oh, wait.

Well, we have good news. No one is going to have to beat their gay children in NC anymore, because they outlawed being gay.

That’s how this works, right? If you outlaw gay marriage, then no one will be gay. Wait, no? So, it’s just hateful and intolerant - it doesn’t change the world to your fucked up viewpoint, it just punishes people going about their lives and not doing anything to you. Damn - that’s fucked up.

I’m reasonably sure she’s got better boobs.

As my Nephew’s Evil Aunt, thank you. He had quite a few big fights with his mother on that subject. I fully expect to see him attend his HS graduation ball in drag (dress code is “disguises, can’t be bought or rented”, and yes, drag is frequent for both sexes).
