So this is the climax to the months-long story arc about agent Lee? This? Let me list the problems with this episode (spoilers to follow, probably):

  1. I knew who the bad guy was as soon as they started talking to him. How could he know that stuff unless he was the guy?

  2. This guy is the mastermind that did all that stuff? Based on things he says, this Agent Lee scheme is not the only iron he’s got in the fire. How could he do all this stuff with (apparently) just one flunky whom he couldn’t even trust to do a decent job guarding a little kid?

  3. All this so that this weasel could find out what was going to happen one day in advance. Right. How was he going to trigger the event in the first place, which required a coordinated attack on an important target in the middle east? Maybe I missed that bit.

  4. The actual ending. How did Gibbs get away with that shooting without a huge internal affairs investigation? He know the guy didn’t have the McGuffin. Then once he knows the little girl is ok, then he shoots? At that point the guy is no danger to anyone not in the immediate vicinity. There were a lot of other choices he should have made at that moment, rather than what he did. Like get everyone off the bus and let a hostage negotiator take over.

This episode demonstrates the weakness of the plots in many episodes of this program. Intelligent options get put aside in favor of big macho endings. Ptui! I spit on this plot.

I still usually like the show, though. I was just very disapointed in this one, after all that build-up.

Alright, pop quiz: The street outside. Gunman with one hostage, he’s using her for cover, he’s almost to the bus. You’re 20 feet away.

Gibbs?

Shoot The Hostage.

What?

Take her out of the equation. Go for the good wound and he can't get to the
bus with her. Clear shot.

Yeah, I thought that was a terrible move for Gibbs. It might have made sense if DiNozo or someone else who thought he had Domino did it, but Gibbs pretty much just killed someone for no reason.

Maybe he thought she was mouthing “I want off the show!”

Agent Lee was guilty of treason and most likely would have been executed anyway. There was no reason to risk the guy shooting any more bystanders.

It wasn’t a great episode, but I enjoyed how they suddenly finished up the entire storyline, in keeping with NCIS tradition of not having main storylines last very many episodes.

It wasn’t even the first dumb thing in the episode, but that shooting was not plausible as Navy procedure.
