NCIS is the best show ever. (Or, I am a sucker for cheesy cop shows.)

NCIS. Navy Criminal Investigative Services.

Lame dialogue. “Witty” repartee. Bad actors. But, DAYUM I can’t stop watching it. The storylines are chessy but bizarrely compelling. Pauley Perrette is hot. Mark Harmon isn’t a bad actor.

I hate CSI and CSI: Miami. David Caruso is like an demon that possesses the television. ::::Ilsa_Lund places hands on hips, puts on Ray-Bans, stares into the sun and intones “That’s a promise, punk!”:::

But I think NCIS, lame as it is, is my favorite television show ever. I will buy it the second it comes out on DVD.

I’m also about to watch Line Of Fire, another cheesy FBI show. But it has Leslie Bibb. For some reason, I watch it every week and I can’t stop.

WHY!?!?

it’s a great show - I like Special Agent Kate Todd…

I kinda like the Goth chick…

Pauley Perrette. The last episode I saw (we are a season behind in NZ) was “Enigma.” Great cheesy stuff.

Remember the guilty pleasure thread from a few weeks to about a month ago? This would apply.

It’s the same as with fast food: There are good burgers and bad burgers. All in all, you know that a diet of only fast food is bad for you, but a cheese whopper w/ x-tra mayo, large fries and a chocoloate fries every now and then won’t kill you.

And when one just longs for some of that really bad, greasy fast food stuff, everyone has their own favorite poison. Mine’s the whopper w xtra mayo, my ex GF craved QP cheese.

And so it is with cheesy cop shows on tv. Some are just bad, some are better. I think NCIS is a cut above the rest in the genre. The pacing is better. The ballance between humour and drama is good, the characters have just enough interesting quirks to grab the attention, the sexual chemestry is fine, if not dazzling. There’s a strong sense of ethos to the show, which is lacking from CSI:Miami.

There’s nothing wrong with you Ilsa. A person cannot live own Big Macs alone. But neither on French Haute Cuisine.

I watched NCIS once and never will again. It’s a pale imitation of CSI. I, however, suffer a similar fascination with CSI: Miami. I f*cking can’t stand “H”, i don’t know how Caruso ever got his first acting job. I watch pretty much only for Emily Procter, I think. And so I can rant about “H”. NCIS doesn’t even register for me any more.

The first few episodes were absolutely awful. In the “Let’s go kill terrorists, guys!” mode of JAG. Really, I don’t care how good a cop you are, you aren’t going undercover *in Greece * to catch bad guys.

Then something strange happened. The show stopped trying to save the world each week. They limited the “acting” of Harmon and just had him glower. Hey don’t knock it - it works. The writing got to be more about the crimes. The actors started liking their jobs, and each other, and no longer resented being there. And they paid attention, little inside jokes abound. Now it’s a fun show. No problem if you miss it one week but worth watching.

Ha - i was afraid to post a ‘who else likes NCIS thread’ a month ago b/c i thought i’d be ridiculed right off the boards. My wife and I can’t agree on tv, ever, but we watch this show together religiously.

Why, I don’t know - the holes in the plots, week after week, are atrocious. Last night’s episode provides one small example - why did the Mob leave the informant alive on the bombing range, when there was certainly no guarentee of his demise there? Of course, this opened up the mob son to be charged w manslaughter and its palatable four+ years of prison, figuring nicely into the plot, but criminy. And I never did figure out the motivation for the killer in the episode the week before.

Despite some of the terrrrrrrrrrrible dialog between Tony and Kate, the interaction between the characters is great. <slight self-hijack - did the actress playing Kate portray some sort of naughty character on Dawson’s Creek? Thats the impression I get from a co-worker, but I never saw DC.>

Ideally, there will be a show where Agent Todd, the goth chick and the Colonel from JAG will be at a conference in Miami and they’ll all be in bikinis on the beach, talkin shop. Rrrrrrrrrrrrr! (and, in a nod to my wife, Mark Harmon will be beefcaking it around the beach as well).

Yep, bad dialogue between the principals, gaping plot holes. I LOVE IT!!

I’m a big NCIS fan – and I am soooo glad they dropped the redundant “Navy” from the title this season! I almost didn’t make it past the first two episodes of the first season, just because the dialogue was so bad (and Pauley Perette’s character seemed way overdone), but either it got better or I stopped noticing. Now I love this show, despite its quirks and foibles.

I just can’t get in to CSI, though – any of them. And I was all excited about the NY show, because I love Gary Sinise. :frowning:

So, am I the only one who thinks McGee is kind of hot (and was even before he lost weight)? I loved it when he took a bite of Tony’s sandwich!

I was a little wary of the show, partially because I remember Pauley Perrette’s very short-lived stint as an MTV VJ (where she billed herself as just “Pauley P.” and she was IRRITATING!). Also, “Jethro” is a terrible name. But I caught an episode and was instantly hooked.

I’ve only seen a few episodes, not great, not terrible, ok to watch.

But it gets tons of coolness points because it has Illya Kuryakin!

I mean how can you not love the guy who played coolest spy ever (Bond was just a pale prototype).
