You’ve come to a stop light. Your windows may be up or down, your own music may be playing or not.
An automobile in your vicinity (not necessarily right next to you) is blasting music out of their windows. It may include door-rattling bass, but not necessarily.
An opinion of the driver surfaces to your mind, it falls within the category of:
Tool, definitely tool. Kick ass stereo systems in cars have their time and place, but driving down the road isn’t it. Especially if it’s loud enough to rattle my windows.
I rated “tool.” And in order not to be a tool, if I’m listening to music (rather than a podcast) I’ll lower the volume at the toll booth (no stoplights in my current area along my route).
I try to be a little forgiving of the tools, though, because (a) sometimes I like my driving music loud, and (b) low frequency wave propagation may not indicate to the driver that his or her music is a nuisance to the other cars (that’s why I lower my volume, despite having a car that’s really quite insulated).
I voted “whatev” because mostly it doesn’t bother me no matter the music. If the music is particularly awful for some reason, I just turn my own music up. I usually listen to classic or hard rock so that tends to drone out anything annoying.
Once I had my music rather loud when I pulled up to an intersection. The old couple on one side of me glared at me. The young kids on the other side of my car glared. I was so pleased with myself for pissing off two generations with one song.
I voted “Dude’s a tool,” and that’s even if he’s blasting my favorite song EVAH! You’re not bad-ass, the attention you’re getting is not positive and if I wanted to blast my ear drums out, I can certainly pick my own music to do it with.
If only! When my husband gets in my car and complains that I have the radio up too loud I tell him I’m trying to dull my hearing. At 40+ years of age, I can still hear those damn mosquito ringtones the young’uns use.
Eh. Depends. I like my music quite loud in my car, myself. On the freeway, I sure as hell don’t worry about it. When I’m on city streets, however, and ESPECIALLY at a stop light, my music goes down. Sometimes, way down (particularly if I’m listening to music that might be considered offensive). I’m not out to annoy people or corrupt the youth.
When I see people at a public park blasting N.W.A. from their car stereo, regardless of kids and whatnot being around, I get really angry. And I like N.W.A.
Oh, and if your incredible bass is actually making the panels of your car rattle as you roll down the street, making it sound like your ride is about to fall apart any moment, I’m going to laugh at you. You’re asking for it.
I voted tool. In my neighborhood, lots of tools riding around, the panels on their POS cars rattling and their damn thumpers rattling the windows on my house. That’s not reasonable.
The last car I had was a while ago, so I’m not sure I’d be as motivated now to have an after-market stereo installed if I were to buy another car. I had a 98 Mustang, with a 1700 watt system installed, done as a custom install at a specialty auto audio shop. It was sooo sweet. No rattling, as that was tested for and rattles insulated where needed. I’m sure I pissed off plenty of people! But I wouldn’t change a thing. As a female driving a car like that, I got a lot of double takes and drag race challenges. I had a lot of fun with that thing!
Look, **the bass thumping physically hurts my ears! I mean, it’s not just annoying, it causes me pain!**I can stick my fingers in my ears, but that only helps a little bit!
Not sure how many lead-acid deep-cycles I’d have to roll with to power it, or how long I’d have to go between shots…but being able to magically fry someone’s car sounds like a wonderful idea when you’re stuck in traffic and that someone’s bass feels like it’s stabbing your eardrums.
But, around here it’s fashionable to have bass that you can actually hear for half a mile from the car or better. One of my neighbors had a friend over showing off-while I was trying to sleep at ten in the morning(since I work second shift), and even though our bedroom’s about 100-some odd feet from where he was parked, I had to go ask him to please turn it down, because I couldn’t sleep.
This with a fan and a window a/c running full blast to provide both cooling and white noise.
