Nearly time for TubaChristmas Chicago!

It’s time once more for those of the tuba and euphonium intent converge on the Grand Ballroom at the Palmer House to bring Christmas cheer to Chicago.

CHICAGO - SATURDAY, DECEMBER 22 - TIME: 1:00 pm

LOCATION: Palmer House Hilton, 17 E. Monroe St., Grand Ballroom

For those of you who might wish to be a participant, here’s where you go for details: TUBACHRISTMAS Locations

If you’re a player, get out your horn on Saturday and go make some music. If you’re an audience member, they need you to make this happen; otherwise it’s just a rehearsal in nice clothes. So go!

As an expat Chicagoan, I’d dearly love to be there, even though I don’t play a tuba!

Would audience participation be allowed, if I were to bring my ukuele?!!?

:smack:

Cute, but no. Lower brass only, tubas and euphoniums and their kin.

It’s shocking to see this kind of bassism still being openly practiced in the 21st century.

Perhaps with some planning you can join the ukelele Christmas orchestra next year. http://www.musiccenter.org/events/activearts/UKULELE-CHRISTMAS-ORCHESTRA/

They used to have Tuba Christmas here in Montreal too. Lots of fun

I just saw this now and me with an unexpected Saturday off with not much to do. Damn.

So how’d it go?

Tuba Christmas went GREAT!! It was larger than last year, with 358 Tubas. Incredibly rich sound that you could feel in your bones. There were some neat looking horns also. I liked the pink sousaphone. “Santa wants a tuba for Christmas” was fun.

Wish I could have been there. I have a neat old double-bell that’s always fun to play too.

Maybe next year … if I make it to the Midwest Band Convention, which I also very much want to do. Let’s make it a date for next year, okay?
