Necking vs. Petting

What is the difference between necking and petting?

I saw both on the 500 question purity test, and I don’t know the difference between the two. It could mean a .4% difference in my score. This is an important question, gosh darn it! I want to know how corrupt I am!

I believe necking is kissing and doing a bit of feeling above the clothing. Petting goes under the clothing. Just my $.02.

According to the 1950’s Style Teenagers Guide to Sex that Mudshark and I picked up as a joke at a used book sale, necking involves only things from the neck up.

Necking is mainly kissing with some snuggling and probably a few hickeys tossed in.

Petting is when things are really getting hot and heavy and you think you’ve about made it to home base (though clothes are generally still on or mostly on) and the girl starts saying she should go home and you try to convince her to stay.

I vote necking is neck up, petting is neck down.

“I thought there’s no use getting into heavy petting
It only leads to trouble and seat wetting”

[/rocky horror]

That is something I’ve wondered about too, though.

Necking is somewhere around first base, trying to steal second. Petting is rounding second and praying to see a signal to take it on home. :stuck_out_tongue:

If I may quote Groucho Marx: “Whoever named it necking was a poor judge of anatomy.”

I always thought necking was kissing from the neck up (I guess it could also mean petting above the neck but what the hell do you want to touch up there for?) while “petting” is touching from the neck down including “kissing” anything down below the neck (and there are plenty of places I like to kiss).

I dunno what counts as first, second, third and home base though. Any 'merican wanna explain? I’m not a baseball fan

Necking vs petting…

YES, please!

badmana: My personal definition of this (YMMV) is that first is simply snuggling, kissing holding hands type things. Second base things are getting a little heavier, probably more intensive make out* sessions, possible leaving of hickeys (necking). Third base is where the feeling up comes into play, kissing sometimes (usually) moves lower, hands start moving beneath clothing and this is also the point where some girls decide things are moving too fast/going too far and back off. Not saying it’s a bad thing, but as the cliche goes that’s when it usually happens. And home base is sex aka all the way.

Actually (to toss a personal anecdote in there) I was really pissed off when the guy decided at around 3rd base that I really should go home. Of course I really did need to otherwise I woulda missed my bus and been in a lot of trouble but I still wonder what may have happened if things fell out differently. Reminds me I should call him and say hello again. It’s been a little since we talked last. We’re still casual friends.

[sub]*I’d say there is a big difference between just kissing and making out. Making out can take up longer periods of time where simply kissing can range from a quick kiss on the lips to a short tonsil hockey session. Anything longer than 5 minutes is heading for/already is a make out session.[/sub]

I agree with those that say necking is more everything from the neck up, and petting is from the neck down. The difference then becomes “petting” vs. “heavy petting,” the former being above clothes, and the latter being under clothes.

As for the bases, they’re the four Fs (vulgarity to ensue): Frenching, Feeling, Fingering, and Fucking.

I can’t believe you’re taking the Purity Test.

Do you know the way to San jose? You can play…

oh, you meant with me! Heh heh!
I must warn ye. My hunnybunny might become highly enraged and seek to smite thee with a mightly blow of his sword of power! If thou wishes to tempt Fate, thou may play… HUZZAH!
