Charming book huh? Well at least the reader is instructed not to beat their wives excessively.
I can’t imagine being trapped in a marriage with one of these Lotharios. We used to have a lot of wealthy Arab students at my old university. This was before 9/11. They all drove hot sport cars and some of the most gorgeous girls on campus were dating them. Good luck with that ladies. They seemed like nice enough guys at school. I tutored several in computer science classes.
To put this in perspective, a current Cracked article talks about the book To Train Up a Child by Michael and Debi Pearl. That book offers helpful advice like: “Select your instrument according to the child’s size. For the under 1 year old, a little, 10- to 12-inch-long willowy branch (striped [sic] of any knots that might break the skin) about one-eighth inch in diameter is sufficient.”
This book is apparently popular with some Christians. But I imagine there are non-religious people buying both books. Being an abusive asshole takes all kinds.
Sure, except that the article quotes someone who refers to the author of the book as a “prominent Islamic scholar”, while the people who wrote that parenting book are some lunatics nobody’s heard of. But yeah, all cultures and religions believe the same stuff and treat women exactly the same.
I have to wonder how many copies of both books were purchased by people for the entertainment value of reading something written by total whack-a-loons, or as gag gifts for new parents/newlyweds.
