I’m going to a bowling tournament the 2nd week of June. With all my other expenses, I’ve pretty much been relegated to Motel 6 for accomodations. Which is OK; some of them are pretty nice.
My question: I have three to choose from: I-10 @ Congress, I-10 @ 22 St/Starr Pass, or I-10 @ Benson Hwy (airport). Is any one better than the other two? Or, if they’re all kinda scummy, which is the least so?
I’m not from Tucson, but I have stayed at the Motel 6 at the I-10 @ Congress when I have gone to the Tucson Mineral Expo. It was clean, decent, and I felt secure there.
Where is your tournament? Those three places are all very far apart from one another. Also, I-10 is screwed up the ass right now with major construction, so you’ll want to be careful about that as well.
I would hope you have a car–there’s no getting around Tucson otherwise!
Miracle Mile is by far the lousiest part of town–if you need hookers or drugs, that’s the place to be. But luckily there are discounts if you buy in bulk.
In terms of places to stay, I would suggest the Congress location. It’s a decent area, plus you’re close to downtown, which is nice if you have any time for sightseeing. It’s also near your tournament and fairly near the airport.
22nd is getting a bit far south for safety, so I wouldn’t go there. And the airport is the airport. No different than any other airport, really. But that one would be fine, too–it’s just that it’s a long drive from the airport to Miracle Mile. Maybe a half hour or more through heavy traffic.
Edit: don’t follow any directions that put you on I-10. It’s closed from the south of Tucson to the north for the next three years or so. You’ll have to follow regular streets or frontage roads.
