Need Facebook help, please

When I log into Facebook, it loads up with a jillion posts from people on my friends list. It can take more than 15 minutes to load, during which time I can’t do anything. Is there a way to adjust it so that these posts don’t load up, short of unfriending these people?

I am largely ignorant of how to use Facebook. I have tried going to some settings menu there, but didn’t find anything that seemed to adress this issue. I’m afraid I’ll need step-by-step instructions in the vein of “Facebook for Dummies.”

What I would like is to be able to post something that someone visiting my page can see, and I’d be happy to receive messages from others that are directed to me personally, but I don’t want to see everything they’re broadcasting to the world showing up on my page. I would want to go to their pages to see that.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Are you connecting to the internet with a potato or what? If it’s taking you 15+ minutes to load a facebook page, I think you have issues with something else.

Meanwhile, if you hover your cursor over a person’s name, you’ll get a popup box with a button that says friends and has a checkmark. Hover over that and you’ll be able to determine whether you want anything they post to show up in your feed, what sorts of things from them you want to show. and whether you want them in a Friends, Acquaintance or Restricted list which controls what they see of your stuff.

If you’re using the iphone/ipad app, well you’re stuck - they suck.

if you’re on a desktop try downloading FB Purity which lets you tailor what you see and what loads. Also Adblock makes things MUCH faster.

I also hide a lot of people that post stuff I don’t want to see, but that I don’t really want to unfriend. (as InnerStickler said)

Facebook should only be loading up two or three screens worth of posts. It will only load more if you scroll down, so something else is going on when you navigate to FB, possibly have problems starting some plug-in.

As others have said, you can control your interest level if friends but that won’t address your issue about how much of your News Feed loads.

In order to keep someone’s “status updates” from showing in your “news feed,” which I think is what you’re asking:

  1. Hover your mouse pointer over the persons name in the news feed. A little context window should pop up.

2)Then go to the “Friends” drops down list, in the window, and hover over that. A list should pop up.

  1. Then there should be a line that’s checked that says “Show In News Feed” Click on that to uncheck it. From now on that persons status updates won’t show in your news feed.
