I once heard a song on the radio, on the bob and sherry show, to be exact. It was by a Lady who i believe does polka music. It was a song about the north- It might have been called “thats what I like about the north” But when I google it I can’t find it, so I am sure thats not it. It is in the song alot though. I can remember one lyric
“we won the war, but we don’t gloat, thats what i like about the north”
Can anyone help me out?
I did a quick search at Amazon.com and found a recording of this song by one Lynn Marie.
That would be a former fellow Clevelander named LynnMarie, you can check out a soundclip from that song at her website:

There seem to be a couple of other songs by that title, but this is, I think, the only polka-sounding version. The other one I located is by a swing band called Badabing Badaboom.
That is exactly it! thanks alot! I am off to polka heaven:D
Hmmmmm… a little more research shows that the song was written by Eddie Mugavero of Badabing Badaboom, although LynnMarie seems to have done better with it. If you want the lyrics, however, they are at the Badabing Badaboom website:

The lyrics you mentioned:
A sack’s a sack, a bag’s a bag; we won the War but we don’t brag
And we salute just one flag … that’s what I like about the North
Another good one:
We eat walnuts, not pralines and mama didn’t have me at seventeen
And all my neighbors have different genes … that’s what I like about the North
(responses from our southern friends will probably be somewhat pit-worthy :D)
Enjoy!
For completeness of research (I know, you didn’t ask for it, and I’m a little nuts to bother :D) the other (unrelated) songs with the same title are:
A song by Tupelo Kenyon which is a tribute to Alaska:
And one done by Pearl Bailey, which I haven’t found any more info on (other than the fact that she recorded it in 1957 and thus couldn’t be either of the tunes above):

(scan down to SR-25012 - Pearl Bailey A Broad - Pearl Bailey [6/57])
That second link didn’t come out right, one more try:
Thanks alot
The reason I am after her because I knew that the same artist does a song I loved, And I could have swore it was called mommas got a squeezebox- the thread going on below made me think of it again-I see I am just going to have to buy every album she has to get the songs i actually heard LOL
The “thats what i like about the north song” is funny-Its my new anthem until, ofcourse, some other Polka mistress comes and entices me away

Pit worthy? Nah, but; You can take my pralines when you pry my cold, dead, fingers from around them.
I guess it’s up to me to point out that the song is obviously a parody of the 1944 Phil Harris classic “That’s What I Like About the South”.
As I recall, Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen did a fine version of the song on “Country Casanova” as well.
It’s a much better song than the parody.
“It’s way on down where the cane grows tall
Down where they say ‘you all’
Walk on in with that southern drawl
And that’s what I like about the South.”
If you think Phil Harris was just the voice of Baloo the Bear in Disney’s “Jungle Book,” check him out. “Darktown Poker Club” and “Smoke! Smoke! Smoke! (that cigarette)” are some other Harris classics.
What the heck is it about the piano accordion in the States? Why is it so darn popular for people to play, yet it’s classed as a joke to actually listen to it?
You know, the nerdy people seem to want to learn it, or the typical beauty pagenat contestant tapdances while playing it - but for some reason it has a weird underground popularity to it.
Kind of strange (I realise this post has no real answer, though)
Not here in Cleveland, GuanoLad – we have not only the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame but the Slovenian-style (Frankie Yankovic et al) Polka Hall of Fame. (Frankie is no relation to Weird Al, although they did play together on at least one recording :))
Of course, there are a lot of nerdy people here (and people who use too many parentheses :p).
And thanks for the great link, Labdad, I’ve added that to my collection of links to novelty tune info.
