Need help getting Java to work

A couple of months ago I played Java games and what not everyday. Now when I try it shows a blank square with what looks like a picture is loading type symbol in the upper left corner. I went to the help section at Yahoo! Games and did everything that they said and it still doesn’t work.

Internet Explorer 5.XX or 6.XX for Windows

1. Click “Tools” in the menu bar, and then select “Internet Options.”
2. Click the “Security” tab. For the Internet zone, be sure that the Security level is set to “Medium” or below. (If you have chosen to customize your security settings for the Internet zone, be sure that under the Java heading, “Java permissions” is not set to “Disable Java.” You will want to select one of the three safety levels instead. Also be sure that under the Scripting heading, “Scripting of Java Applets” is set to “Enable” or “Prompt.”)
3. Next, click the “Advanced” tab.
4. Scroll down until you see the sub heading “Java VM.”
5. Check the boxes next to “Java logging enabled” and “Java console enabled.” (Note: If you checked the box next to “Java JIT compiler enabled” and are experiencing freezing problems, uncheck that box.)

As mentioned above, what Yahoo! suggested I do didn’t work. So I don’t really know what to do. Does anyone have some ideas? Thanks.

You have installed a program within the last couple of months that is preventing the javascript from loading. What might it be? A firewall, AdSubtract, Ad-aware, a new anti-virus program. If that doesn’t ring a bell, make sure you have IE6xx loaded and upgraded. We can go from there.

You might try looking at the Java Console in IE to see if it tells you anything ( View | Java Console ). You maybe have to install this first - sorry, can’t remember. There’s an option “t” to look at threads that might give you a clue (pretty cryptic unless you’re a Java programmer, though.)

Hmm, i’ve checked my Java Console, it’s on, but it still doesn’t seem to be working… Is there anything I can download and install to get this thing working again?

(BTW, I’m not having trouble with Javascript, just Java.)

You could really take a leap of faith and go with Sun’s Java plug-in. This will replace the JVM (Java Virtual Machine) in your browser with the true-blue one from Sun.
