Need help marketing myself to non accounting jobs

Recently I was asking on here about advise for different kinds of drafting programs and civil engineering technology however after a long discussion at home my family and I have reached the conclusion that going about that route isn’t looking viable and that I need to work with what I have which is my two year degree in business administration and my four year degree in accounting. Now I was looking at those other programs because I wasn’t having any luck with accounting but am going to put myself out there again trying to find a job. My goal now is to try and get something outside of the accounting field however I feel that when I apply to a non-accounting type job that they might look at my resume with question marks in thinking why am I applying for something outside my field.

What and how are the best ways to go about all this? How can I show that I’m just as good as someone else with a non accounting degree? Thank you all as usual!

What types of non-accounting jobs are you considering?

How far from the field do you want to go?

You will get a “good” job because you impress the person who actually hires you. Work on doing so - getting to that person, passing the ‘sniff test,’ and impressing them as being the right person for the position.

The vast amount of hiring that doesn’t follow that model is so competitive on levels like resume analysis, keyword matching, scoring and evaluation by a series of gatekeepers that an indifferent, random or unrelated job history is going to screen you out at a low level. I’d say you have no hope at all of being hired for an accounting position in a medium to large firm through anything like normal hiring practices - only if you know someone who knows the department head will you have an inside track.

Focus on companies, jobs and situations where you can impress the hiring person with what a great effin’ person and match for their needs you are.
