There is a vote going on at the moment at my local football (soccer) team to find the best player amongst the amateur leagues for the last season. The team my brother plays for and I support were doing very well until recently when another team suddenly began registering votes at an alarming rate. Under the rules of the competition each person can cast a vote every two hours, so myself and other fans of the club have been doing our best to register as many votes as possible but I noticed that we always fell far behind overnight.
After monitoring votes being cast by the other leading team it became apparent that the votes were being automatically cast by a script or macro as they occurred every two hours even at 2am, 4am, 6am etc. I snooped the Facebook pages of fans of players from the other club and found the culprit who has been gathering together account details form other people to add to his script and essentially cheat the vote.

I’m all for healthy competition but I don’t like cheaters so I humbly request that the masses of SDMB help put these cheats in their place by casting votes for [our team].
