:smack: You’re right, of course. I was under the (mistaken) impression that she lived out in the country. Anyway, I was only half-serious about the shotgun…there are less extreme solutions to try before breaking out the firearms. Sure would liven up a quiet day in the neighborhood, though.
hillbilly queen, as others have sugguested, you might have some success with “bribing” them. I put a generous amount of black oil sunflower seeds out in the yard for them each day. They haven’t been raiding my garden and it keeps them out of the bird feeders. The raccoons seem to really like them as well.
The fabric softener sheets worked for a few days. Then I tried bribing them with peanuts, every…single…morning.
That worked for about 2 weeks. Now they eat the peanuts AND my garden. Yesterday they devoured 3 ears of corn, and 4 tomatoes.
Next year I’ll use weapons.
Something else I thought of, you could try a slingshot. That’d get their attention, but probably wouldn’t kill 'em. If they’re really nasty, you might want to use the double barrelled variety.
After a successful battle with Garage squirels, I can tell you this, they do not like the smell of lots of Mothballs.
On an unrelated note, does anyone know how to rid a garage of the smell of mothballs? Same question for cars. Same for golf clubs. Same for power tools. same for…
Don’t wait till next year… a good time to cut down on their population is when they’ve nested… and squirel nests become pretty obvious once the leaves start to fall.
I found that a well-aimed BB gun or slingshot works quite nicely. Sometimes they get stunned for a second and fall to the ground, where my cat polishes them off.
