How do I get it to stop timing out with “The document contains no data” when the connection is slow?
I know it’s not the website because it’s a uni website, besides which it happens on the dope sometimes.
It’s kind of urgent because I’m trying to sign my gf on to classes for uni and they’re getting filled up fast (which is why the site is getting hammered)!
It means that the script that the site runs on didn’t send the data to the browser, for whatever reason. It’s probably not a problem with Mozilla, but with the traffic to the site.
Run it as a text-only browser. You won’t see the pretty pictures, but things will respond much faster. Go to edit/preferences/privacy & security/images and check “display no images”.
However, you may find poorly-designed websites that don’t work in text-only mode. A University websight ought not to be done this poorly, but many are. (Often they seem to be done by Computer Science students, who want to show off their acquaintance with the most cutting-edge techniques, and who know nothing and care nothing about the “customers” of their website.)
Universities also ought to be aware that the Americans with Disabilities Act requires them to make their services available to blind people, many of whom use a text-only browser with a screen reader program.
I can’t. She forgot to give me her password so I have to use the computer and browser it’s saved on. Since she’s in Egypt at the moment getting her password off her is a bit difficult. Otherwise I’d just go in and get the uni to do it!
