This is directed at the game Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl, but applies for pretty much all games on steam:
I recently purchased Stalker Shadow of Chernobyl on Steam. The game seems fun, but the character’s head bobs left and right at a nauseating pace every time I move. I’ve found mods online that apparently fix this problem, but they seem to be meant for a copy of the game installed from the original disks. As far as I can tell, Steam installs games completely differently from normal. I can’t seem to locate any of the config or system files for any of the games I have downloaded on Steam. Normally I install games directly to the folder E:\games
ame_of_game. I would assume that Steam would be putting them somewhere. I have a folder E:\Steam that seems to be very counter-intuitive. It is large enough to contain game installs, but the files are all messed about. I can’t make heads or tales of it.
Can anyone help me figure out how to find the files for the games I have on Steam? Or more specifically, how to turn off head bobbing in Stalker? I find it extremely silly that the only option I see left to me is to uninstall Stalker, bittorrent a CD version, and install that so that the file names actually make sense. I’m pretty sure that wouldn’t be illegal, since I just freakin paid for the game. I’ve heard that Steam is supposed to be great for direct download games, but so far I am far from impressed.
