Need opinions on a bag

Love it! And I’m not a gamer or a geek.

If I saw you wearing that bag, I would make certain assumptions about you. But apparently those assumptions would be correct. I don’t find the bag appealing because I don’t tend to like the same sorts of things. And I do think it’s a little cheesy. But nowhere near People of Wal-Mart tacky!

Also, if you normally dress as plainly as you say, you could use an accessory with a little panache. That bag has panache. Geek panache, but panache nonetheless.

I think I just talked myself into liking it a lot more than I did when I started writing this. Keep it.

I just spent the last half hour looking for that bag on line to no avail.

I like it. I’m a girl, but not a gamer and if I saw you with that bag, I would definitely tell you it was awesome. Keep it.

Yeah, I know. I tried to find it too when I was writing the OP, and it seems like it’s disappeared. The official name for it is the “Mark Nason Double Dragon Buckle” bag, but that’s deceptive because there’s another similar bag by the same name. It has the buckles, but the stitching in the middle is an iron cross, not a dragon.

I think I’m glad I jumped on it when I did–I actually bought it quite some time ago (like a couple of months) and it’s been in the box ever since. I was trying to decide whether to return it, but I think I’m going to keep it. I really appreciate all the opinions (especially since most of them were positive! )

I think it’s totally cool. The thing about a funky handbag is that if you normally dress quite plainly you can probably pull off the handbag a lot better than a funky outfit that would normally be out of character for you. Looks less like you’re trying too hard to be edgy.

Trying to look at the bright side of things - judging from the price of his other bags, I just saved myself a bunch of money.

I don’t care, dammit! I want that bag!

I like it. I actually think it’s very feminine being so ornate.
If I saw a guy carrying it I would probably want to say “Dude, seriously, why are you carrying that chick bag.”
A woman could pull it off as a fashion piece. A guy would look really geeky.

That’s the other thing–yeah, it was pretty pricey–more than I’ve ever paid for anything similar (or probably ever will!) So I’m a little afraid of leaving it someplace, having it stolen, or being so aware of it that it makes it hard to concentrate on anything else. But I think that will go away over time.

If you really want it, you might try giving them a call directly. I think there’s a customer service phone number on the site, and they might be able to tell you where you can find it.

Nice. That’s the perfect sort of thing I’d want–something that looks masculine on a woman, but would be too feminine for a guy. I don’t want to look butch, just androgynous and geeky.

Good on you for buying a more distinctive bag! I like my current purses, but they’re kind of boring. After reading the thread, though, I’ve almost convinced myself to go out and buy a gorgeous red one that I’ve been ogling for a while.

Yoinks! $700 for the similar bag with the iron cross?

But having a handbag that you really like just makes life more enjoyable. $700 is a small price to pay to walk around every day feeling just that much better.

(Hmm…is it possible to add it to your homeowners insurance? I don’t know if you can do that for bags.)

I love it, love it, love it! It so original and I like a bag that I can fit anything in. “What other people think is none of my business”, is my motto. If you love this bag and it works for you go for it. I recently got a cool lime green leather bag with nice brass hardware at TJMaxx. I found a matching wallet and it is big enough for all my junk. It is no where near as expensive as yours but sometimes you just find something that is one of a kind.

The only problem you might find is it doesn’t work for every occasion but that is why we need a few different bags. I have a plain leather one, a basic black one, A jeweled bag for evening wear.

I say go for it and enjoy. I like to make my own trends and you just might start a new one!

I’m not a geek, I’m not a gamer, and I’m pretty much girly. But I love the bag! It may have been pricey, but if you use it for a long time, that pretty much disappears. I read in a (woman’s, if it matters) magazine years ago that the best way to measure the value of a piece of clothing or accessory is to estimate the ‘cost per use’. So if you spend $150.00 for a bag, but carry it every day for two years, that’s less than 25C per use! Cheap! Whereas, if you spend $50.00 for a bag but only carry it twice a year for five years, it’s $5.00 per use. Much more expensive than the bag you paid more for!

Don’t know if they have anything that would interest you, but I carry a Fossil bag; the reason I have a Fossil (and I bought it on sale and at an outlet store) is because I have a friend who really doesn’t care about the cost of things, and says she’s never had a Fossil bag that disappointed her.

No doubt my Fossil bag is much too girly for you. But the quality really is magnificent, I’ve gotten more compliments on it than any other bag I’ve carried, and if they have something that you think suits you, I recommend it as a brand.

As far as looking for a lesbian: meh. Life is too short to waste on what other people think.

Funny that you should mention that. I have a lot of bags (I think I’m compulsive about buying them–I just really want to get into the habit of using them more) but one of my other favorites is a Fossil bag. It’s a men’s version, made of super-soft dark brown leather with a soft webbing strap. It looks like the kind of satchel a flying ace would carry. I love it! The only problem with it is that it’s made of thick leather and therefore heavy! Really heavy. Like it weighs down my shoulder when I wear it, even when it’s completely empty. If it wasn’t for that I would probably have never looked for another bag. I’m still searching for the perfect one, but so far I’ve only come close.

I can see that. I might also think that you’re going to pull magic potions or dice out of it. I like the steampunk aesthetic, but I don’t know that I would want to wear it. It’s a little odd that you generally prefer dark/neutral bags that wouldn’t call attention to you and then get this magic-bag with dragons all over it. Perhaps you want to stand out more than you think you do!

Heehee. Maybe so. Actually it’s still fairly dark, and it only has three dragons on it (two buckles and the stitching). It’s definitely more “out there” than anything else I have, but I really have no issue with people thinking I might pull magic potions or dice out of my bag. I let my geek flag fly proudly–I just don’t want to be “that geek,” if you know what I mean. I saw waaayy too many of those at Gen Cons and Blizzcons past.

I want the “geek with a job” vibe, not the “still lives in parents’ basement and never bathes” vibe.
