Need recommendations for media management software

I’m in need of a web-based content management system to enable my users to upload, label, organize, browse and search a large variety of different media files. I’ve got experience with a number of CMS packages, but most of the ones I’ve worked with are geared toward website or intranet management, with either far more PITA overhead than I currently need (coughsharepointcough), or document/media management too rudimentary for my current purposes.

Key features I’m looking for:
[ul][li]Free or cheap (yeah, you knew it was coming)[]Web-based or otherwise externally accessible without remote/VPN doofiness[]Intuitive interface for front-end users[]Ability to add custom metadata fields[]Reasonably powerful search utility (can search multiple fields, etc.)Ideally geared toward media files of various types[/li][/ul]
Anyone know of anything like this out there? Standalone software packages are fine as long as I can get them running under Windows Server 2008 with minimal headache. Any recommendations are appreciated.

Check out DotNetNuke. I think the Community Edition is still free.

Thanks. I’ve worked with DotNetNuke before as a web platform, and it’s certainly powerful enough to suit my needs, but comes with a bit more overhead and complicated UI (yeah, I know, but some of the people who’ll use this are web-n’-email-and-wait-what’s-the-Start-button-again? type users) than I ideally want. There’s no need for multiple pages or any kind of hierarchy, just essentially a glorified media folder with upload and search features.

(Don’t worry, this isn’t one of those threads where the OP rejects every offered solution out of hand…just trying to clarify what I’m looking for. I’ll gladly go with something like DNN if it’s the best thing available.)
