Need recommendations for mildly-scented shampoos

My favorite cheap shampoo changed formulas and got too stinky. I can’t stand strong, perfumy scents especially if they linger. Trying to smell bottles in the store doesn’t seem to give me a good enough idea of how strong they are or how long they linger. Please help. I hate buying stuff and then not wanting to use it 'cause it stinks.

Here’s what I’m looking for:

Mild scent that is mostly undetectable after you’re done washing (you’d have to be cuddled up to me to smell it).

Citrus, most herbal scents, some other fruits (no raspberry) = ok. Flowery scents = not ok.

Relatively cheap (say less than $5 for 24 oz). I have short hair and don’t need anything more than to get my hair clean. I just don’t want to spend of ton of money for that kind of stuff.

Easy to find (like at grocery stores or Target).

Thanks folks. This is the greatest storehouse I know for helpful ideas (well, unhelpful ideas too :p).

I’ve always been disappointed that Herbal Essences doesn’t leave me with pretty-smelling hair. At least, I’ve never been able to smell it afterwards :frowning:

You might want to check out the travel toiletries section of Target, Walmart, et al. I know I have seen travel-sized Herbal Essences and a heap of other brands. That way you can test without committing.

Pantene is a little pricier depending on where you buy it. It’s more or less odorless. I don’t notice any lingering fragrance on my hair.

I use nothing but Suave, and don’t pay more than an buck a bottle for it. I change fragrances regularly, and just go for whatever smells good in the bottle, because in the shower is pretty much the only place I smell it – the scent doesn’t linger at all.

If you have access to a costco, try their Kirkland brand of shamppo. You get two 40 oz bottles for around six bucks. Works for me.

Suave is the brand that betrayed me. I’ve tried a couple other flavors, and couldn’t stand any of them.

Travel sizes – I try everything I see that doesn’t hurt my nose on first sniff. No luck there. One of those was an Herbal Essence variety that smelled ok but made my hair feel limp. Maybe one of their other varieties would work.

Thanks all. Keep the ideas coming.

Second on the Kirkland’s from Costco - good deal & very little fragrance.

Isn’t there one with Rain in the title? It’s another about-a-buck shampoo and I always thought they smelled really good.

Some else mentioned White Rain in another forum. I’ll give it a sniff.

Yep, that’s the one. Good luck!

I use TRESemme. It costs about $3 for a 32 oz. bottle, and it’s sold at WalMart. It doesn’t really have a scent and it rinses out fast(some shampoos linger and take forever to rinse out).

I also like their conditioner because it doesn’t weigh my hair down.

Just picked up some Pantene – a trial size of one type and a small size of another. I’ll report after my shower tonight.

Pantene #1
The smell’s ok, but it lingers too long. I can still smell it this morning.

I’ll try Pantene #2 tonight.

Sorry, JustThinkin’–I don’t smell anything the morning after but I guess I’m used to it.

That sounded vaguely dirty.

Suave scents are usually quite quite mild and it’s a good basic shampoo. Baby shampoos are usually very mild scentwise.

I use a Clairol Herbal Essences shampoo - “Body Envy” with white nectarine and pink coral flower. More of a fruity aroma - I can’t STAND floral scents. I don’t notice the fragrance after I wash my hair, Typo Knig does (and likes it) when cuddled up.

It’s inexpensive, and readily available at the drugstore and the grocery store. Sometimes in unmanageably large bottles, even!

Oh - and it doesn’t leave my hair limp, which is obviously a BIG plus.

This.
It’s Honey and Almond scented, but it is most assuredly not overpowering. We discovered it a couple of months ago and absolutely love it.

Pantene #2 is ok. I’ll use up the bottle anyway and keep all y’all’s recommendations on the back burner.

Thanks everybody.

V05 Kiwi Lime is super inexpensive and mild smelling. The faint smell it leaves is very clean with a hint of lime.

Anyone else got a craving for chicken fingers and lime flavored cilantro?
