I archived my inbox when I used to use cc:mail. The file is in a “.cca” format. I no longer have any version of cc:mail but wonder if there is an alternate way to access the files located in this directory (?)
Anyone know of a way to open this darned thing w/o having to purchase cc:mail. I’m not looking to obtain a hacked version, I simply want to obtain the information contained in this file.
Depending on your new mail program, you may be able to just import the archive.
Outlook for instance can do this:
File Menu-> Import/Export -> Import ccMail Archive. This feature is not installed in a default install & you may need to provide the Outlook CD to finish.
Try a text editor like notepad? I don’t know cc:mail, but most mail archives are stored in some form of ascii, with lots of gobbledygook around it. Should be enough to get pertinent information out of the file.
Sorry, jjimm, but I used to use cc:Mail, and IIRC, the internal format of its files was completely impenetrable with just a text editor. Looking for the proper import filter for it is definitely the way to go!
Thanks for the information, deathawk - I did just what you instructed and sure enough, I can’t find my install disk. Thats okay since I know plenty of people who also use Outlook.
jjimm I tried your suggestion as well and it was no good. My file is too big for Notepad but I used another text program and the whole file was numbers and letters that did not make sense to me.
I think I’ve got this figured out, appreciate the help !
