need to recreate an old recipe for peanut butter balls

I’m still just crying with laughter over “buckeye” being “your local slang”. Oh, it is indeed taking longer than we thought.

To be fair, and perhaps I should be ashamed, I had to look up the meaning of the word “buckeye.” I vaguely knew it was some type of nut, but I grew up calling them “horse chestnuts.” I’m sure the slang is widespread, but I don’t think it’s universal.

I am so glad to see the turn up the high and dignified road that this thread has taken! L

Ah, sarcasm. Turn? Honey, this thread was doomed from just about the get-go.

Horse Chestnuts and Buckeyes look similar but they are in fact two different nuts.

Likewise, others enjoy a drier experience - dry, warm salty ball sucking (with just a hint of sweetness!) is nirvana. It’s really a personal preference thing.

Yeah, looking at the pictures of the trees and their leaves, what I’ve seen around here is definitely not an Ohio buckeye. Our horse chestnuts have big, tear-drop shaped leaves and the casing for the seed looks spikier and greener than the buckeye’s.
