*Need very specific historical weather info

*Well, I don’t really need it, but I’m looking for it. I know this would be in some online archives, but so far my Google-fu has failed me. Anyway. . .

It snowed in central South Carolina in late December 1970, after Christmas. What was the specific date?

(As this is South Carolina, it’s not like that was something we see much of, so it was a big thing at the time.)

NOAA reports a trace of snow in Columbia on December 31, 1970. Outside of that, I’m finding nothing.

Here’s the NOAA link for historical weather data.

In the old days I’d just go down to the local library or newspaper office and scan thru the microfilm of the local paper. You could probably check out your local libraries web sites and see how far back their archives have been transferred over.

Thanks, all. Looks like the only options are December 29 (slight dusting) and December 31 (much more). I think the one I’m remembering must have been New Year’s Eve.

Actually, The State has now been digitized up through 1982. You can look at the paper if you like online if you have a Richland Library card - go to Newsbank under “Research It” on richlandlibrary.com.

Thanks for the tip.

And people say the liberry don’t do nothin’ for them.
