Needed Songs/artists...

I am in need of about 30 or 35 good songs for my last MP3 CD I am making. I am just going to download them at work (fast connection), burn them in MP3 format, and put them on my laptop so I can take them to college. Anyway, I got 4 and a half CDs worth now, and I need another 200 Megs. Is there any music out there that you guys highly recommend that I may not have experienced or heard of yet? Give me some suggestions. Thanks.

What kind of music?

Should have said earlier. I’m a pretty open person as far as music types goes. Anything but country that twangs or is remnisent of Achey Breaky Heart (don’t like that), or real heavy death metal. Those two don’t do it for me. I’m open to (not necessarily in this order):

Rock (ex:Pearl Jam)
Classical (ex: James Horner)
Classic Rock (ex: Steely Dan)
Pop (ex: Brittany Spears)
Soft (ex: Jewel)
Ska/punk (ex: Sublime)
Guitar (ex: Stevie Ray Vaughn)
Blues (ex: Keb Mo)
Country (ex: Lonestar)
Rap/R&B (ex: Warren G)
Hard Rock (ex: Metallica)

Those are just some examples. My collections far expands that, but some others that I might be interested in would be appreciated. Thanks

Country (not the pop country you hear on the radio) songs you might like:

Robert Earl Keen- Dreadful Selfish Crime, I’m Coming Home, Sonora’s Death Row

Owen Temple- Mary, When I Hit San Antone

Jerry Jeff Walker- LA Freeway

Cory Morrow- Running Around on Me, I’m Not Coming Home Tonight

Chris Wall- Big in the Heart, Cold Blue Highway

Jackopierce- The Vineyard

Roger Creager- Love

Classic Rock

Eric Clapton- Badge(Live Version)

Blues Rock

Kenny Wayne Shepherd- Somehow somewhere someway, Slowride

Hard Rock

Tool- 46&2, Eulogy, Stinkfist, Aenema, Parabola

Pantera- Walk

Godsmack- Bad Magick, Greed, Awake

Classic Rock

Band- The Weight

Cat Stevens- Wild World

How about some good old British rock/pop for a change. Album titles are in parentheses.

David Gray - Say Hello, Wave Goodbye (White Ladder)
The Verve - Bittersweet Symphony (Urban Hymns)
James - Falling Down (Pleased to Meet You)
Coldplay - Shiver (Parachutes)
Radiohead - Subterranean Homesick Alien or Let Down (OK Computer)
Blur - No Distance Left to Run (13)
Jesus & Mary Chain - Sometimes Always (Stoned & Dethroned)

And then there’re The Pixies. The Pixies! Come On Pilgrim! Damn, I’m having flashbacks now…

I would DEFINITELY second the Pixies. I love the Pixies. I love the Pixies. (Just thought I’d say it twice.) If you are gonna download just one I’d say get either “Brick is Red” or “Where is my mind”, but those are definitely not the only good ones, they just kinda represent they’re style pretty good.

Also, if you are into punk rock, check out Dillinger Four. “OK. FM. DOA.” and “Mosh for Jesus” are probably the ones that will eat your brain away even after you’re done listening to them.

Oh my god…I have to kill myself now. I meant to say “their”.

Here’s a few suggestions:

Donnas–Do You Wanna Hit It
Get Up Kids–Red Letter Day
Reggie & the Full Effect–Where’s Your Heart
Promise Ring–A Picture Postcard
Cave In–In the Stream of Commerce
Dropkick Murphys–Wheel of Misfortune

Hope it’s some use to you.

You’ve got yourself some wild categories, there, dude. I don’t know if you’d consider her “guitar” or “blues,” given your examples, but if you haven’t listened to any Susan Tedeschi, you should give her a try.

Check out Richard Thompson, an intense Brit folk-singer with excellent lyrics.

“1952 Vincent Black Lightening” and “Beeswing” are two of the most haunting songs I’ve ever heard.

How about unsigned artists? Lots of local Chicago area bands with bushels of talent can be found here.

The fact that it is my website is purely coincidence.

BTW, these are royalty-free mp3’s. Feel free to copy and distribute them amongst your friends.
