I have an issue currently with a neighbor down in the next building (townhome units). They are often so disruptive in the middle of the night that we have gotten fed up and started calling the cops every time. The most recent incident involved a long bout of screaming and blasting music in the parking lot at 3AM. The prior incident they were out breaking glass in the lot, same time of day. We just got sick of being woken up by screams of random profanity threats etc on a work night. So the latest incident involved multiple police, an ambulance and my roommate going outside on the front porch to watch it all go down. Any way earlier tonight I was outside and one of them came running out to confront me screaming that she was “sending her boys out next time b**h”. Now it’s 4AM and I can’t sleep because I am so scared. I’ve put cameras in the front windows and barred all 3 doors with chairs. For real am I in danger. Serious replies appreciated thank you.
The short answer is maybe/maybe not. If it was just an idle threat, then no. That comment may not have been a threat of violence but, “you want to make a noise complaint? That wasn’t loud, I’ll bring my boyz our & we’ll show you loud.” However, you’ve already had PD contact with them (even if the neighbor doesn’t know it was you who called). Since PD has already been involved it wouldn’t hurt to call them again & have this documented as part of the ongoing issue. Depending upon where you live & how busy the PD are, they may be able to drive thru an extra time or two or even sit in your parking lot while they do paperwork from other calls therefore giving you some extra presence but don’t expect a car sitting there 24x7. Unless there’s been other stuff going on what you have is a non-specific ‘threat’ & someone who shouldn’t know you were the one who called PD.
Is it rental or owned community? If rental, go to the property manager as noise complaints are hardly the most serious criminal activity but they may be violating a lease clause.
Threatening people is a crime. Call the police and report it. They’ve already responded to your other complaints, why would you think they wouldn’t respond to your being threatened?
It’s not necessarily a crime. I’m sure it probably varies a little by jurisdiction, but generally a threat doesn’t exist if someone says they will do something to you “next time” or at some later date. Similarly, ultimatums, or statements in the form of “if you do x to me, then I’m going to do y to you” are not criminal threats. So if she threatened to send her boys out, there’s nothing illegal about it. Hell, she didn’t even say what her boys are going to do, or the purpose of them going outside.
A threat, to be criminal, has to be somewhat immediate, e.g. “I’m going to do harm to you right now.”
Something as vague as “I’m gonna kick your ass” was enough to get “terroristic threats” charges levied when I was on Grand Jury. However, whether or not what she said to you meets the definition of a crime where you are, is up to the police and DA.
Definitely keep security cameras running, and contact your landlord if these are rentals.
Yes, of course. But, “I’m going to kick your ass tomorrow” would have been different. Also, “I’m going to kick your ass if you call the police again” would not cut it, either.
Only if the rest of the neighborhood is like that. If it’s just this one set of douchebags then they need to be dealt with.
OP: Is it these same schmucks?
