Neil Young releases his album for free streaming

(My apologies if this is posted elsewhere here, but I did a search and found nuttin’ about it, so…)

Just read that Neil Young’s new album Living with War will be available for free download tomorrow, i.e. Friday, April 28. Young’s pretty hot right now, with his new doc Heart of Gold doing pretty well, and the album itself is said to be pretty incendiary. One review I read called it “a motherfucker of a protest album.” Heh.

Anyway, we’ll be able to download the songs tomorrow by visiting his website or http://neilyoung.truemajority.org on Friday. The latter site is a progressive activism hub, and has other protest-related info.

Here’s some more info from MP3.com:

I think the abovementioned “America the Beautiful” version is sung by the 100-member choir. That should be pretty freakin’ awesome. (I think AtB is the most touching patriotic song … actually makes me teary when sung well.)

Just thought some Young fans or politico types might be interested. Enjoy!

Nitpick: there’s a difference between “available for free streaming” and “available for free download”. Streaming means you listen to it as they transmit it to you, and you’re not supposed to be able save the music to your hard drive to listen to whenever you want (of course there’s tricks to do this, but that’s neither here nor there).

They don’t want to you to download the tracks to your PC to play anytime you want for free; they just want to you to be able to hear it temporarily and buy it afterwards.

Anyway, thanks for the heads-up!

Oh yipe, you’re right – I didn’t read carefully enough. Sorry guys, that was stupid and sloppy reporting on my part. Free streaming certainly makes more sense financially for him!

I’ll definitely be listening though.

Thanks, SkipMagic! I really appreciate it.

Glad you’re excited too, El Kid Viscoso. I think it’s astounding that thirty years after his hayday, Young can still muster the artistic wherewithal to fight the battles he believes in. I really admire that, and I’d imagine even people who might not agree with his views can respect his ability to remain passionate about his beliefs.

The album is still streaming at Neil’s Garage.
Thank you, Neil.

It’s official. There is no-one cooler on this planet than Neil Young. This is awesome.

mm

I’m not even a Neil Young freak, but this is out-frickin-standin’.

Thank God for the old-time hippies. They still get it better than anybody.
