Mom is 83 and in ridiculously good heath and shape. It’s pretty typical for the women in my family to keep going well into their 90’s, sometimes even hitting triple-digits. Still, every time it takes her more than three rings to answer the phone, that little bit of dread comes creeping along…

We met with Rico’s sister and Mom’s best friend of 40+ years at the mortuary today. We were thinking of the funeral on Thursday but his sister has other family committments requiring her to go home asap so there will be a 1/2 hr viewing service at the mortuary per Mom’s request of family and close friends only and the graveside serivice Mom also insisted we only do has been scheduled for Wednesday afternoon approximately a 7-8 hr drive one way from here.
Both Rico and I are astounded at the amount of support, love and good wishes we are receiving from all of you on the board! It’s just amazing how you can care about us and most of you have never even seen a picture of us.

Rico and cadolphin, my condolences to you. As others have said, no matter how long your parents live, it’s still absolutely devastating when they go. I hope that you can find peace in your memories.

Oh, Rico, I am so sorry. I lost my mom about a year and a yalf ago. The pain never really goes away, but it will, in time, become more sweet than bitter. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
