Nephew/godson getting married

He is marrying in northern Michigan …in March. It’s his first marriage her second. She has two kids. We have been invited, I told him I might come, due to my husband in between job status, the money isn’t flowing in as quickly as flowing out. I have three weeks to RSVP…

Thanks for sharing. Let us know how it turns out.

I haven’t heard from my godparents since I was christened and some of my cousins couldn’t be arsed to get to my wedding, so from my point of view, you really don’t have to go. Consider them NOT having to pay for your food as a first wedding gift, and something you send as a second.

Are you looking for advice? Or just a “cool story bro!”?

If you are close, you should try to attend as it is the first wedding of your nephew/godson. If it is not doable for financial reasons, send a gift and a card.

I’m not sure why you added the info about the spouse’s wedding and child count…that shouldn’t really play a role in your attendance since you would be attending to support and show love for your nephew.

Is this the son of the SIL whose husband has the semi-pornographic tattoos? Maybe they’re getting married when it’s cold so dad won’t try to rent a sleeveless tux.
I’m another who questions the relevance of the fiancee’s prior marriage and children; this is 2013, we don’t put the potential validity of others’ marriages to a vote by a moral or religious council anymore. Send a card and wish them well, it’s the least polite thing you could do in this situation.

Hope its a good’un, I’m sure they’ll realise that if due to finacial reasons you can’t be there in person, you’ll definitely be there in spirit !

Wow Nawth Chucka you remember Tattoo Tom? ( he passed away a few years ago). Not that side of the family.

I mentioned the kids etc, because the fiancée is a few years older than the nephew. I was not making any moral or religious judgement. I don’t care. Thought it would add to the story. No harm.

I’ve been checking on flights…

Bump…

Decided to go after my husband landed a job. Booked the flight and motel room yesterday. Now I have to figure out what to wear for an afternoon wedding Traverse City Michigan …first week in March. Ideas anyone?

Layers! It’ll be cold and/or wet outside but warm inside. A blazer, nice blouse and dress pants w/ flats would be my choice for an afternoon wedding. As a godparent expect to possibly be in pictures, so solid muted colors would be a good choice for blending in w/ the wedding party. Safe travels to you both and I hope you have a nice time!
