Nerd score today. Goodwill store had a BUNCH of Star Trek VHS tapes.
A complete collection of the original series, 39 tapes, “collectors edition”
Most of TNG, 70 tapes, 140 episodes (out of about 178?), again “collectors edition”.
Boxes in very good condition, tapes don’t look like they have been watched much, some maybe not even watched.
Will dig up some of the best of the best to watch. My dad worked night shift when TOS was on, so he missed a bunch and was pissed about it. So he may inherit TOS (he probably isn’t interested in TNG).
Paid a staggering 25 cents each.
Watch a few, or a bunch, then it is Craigs list or Ebay time.
Will have to run back tomorrow and see if the rest of TNG was hidding or misplaced.
Cool. I’d be more interested in the stuff at the beginning or end, to see if there’s anything cool you might want to try and preserve. The actual episodes are so easily available that I’d not bother.
Fun! Enjoy them. Last year I bit the bullet and just threw out all the VHS tapes I had for movies I already had in other media. My exceptions were the stuff I taped myself off TV (the commercials are worth more than the shows in those cases) and my various incarnations of Star Wars on VHS (I have at least four different releases). I don’t even have a VCR hooked up anymore and they just take up so much space.
What a great score! I never got any official Trek VHS, but when I first got into TNG I was meticulous about recording every single episode, in order, and carefully labelled with episode name and number. I got about five episodes per tape, some with commercials and some without. There were a LOT of tapes. I finally got the DVD series and decided to give away the tapes. My friend was having a yard sale and I put them out with a “Free” sign. I didn’t have much hope but I thought one person will be thrilled if they showed up. No interest for hours. People would look and meh. About an hour before the end of the sale, I was watching and knew immediately it was The Guy. He did a double-take, then stared and looked like he was going to cry. He asked if they were really free, I said they were and we had quite a discussion about many things Trek.
That was about ten years ago and it still gives me the warm fuzzies.
