Nerdiest reason ever to start embroidering

So what could possibly drive me, the laziest person on the planet who also has a crippling fear of needles to boot, to take up embroidering?

Making Team Fortress 2 class badges, of course.

Tried doing the Medic’s as a proof of concept. It’s probably a bit smaller than the “actual” thing, but it’s not bad for my first serious embroidering project.

The tedium I didn’t mind, once I got into it I wasn’t paying any attention to anything other than getting the next stitch right.

The eyestrain, not so much. My head still hurts.

Now to throw this thing in the laundry to see if it’s machine washable. /crosses fingers

as long as your stitches are reasonably tight and finished well, it should wash ok. Most embroidery yarn is fairly colorsafe nowadays.
nice work, but in the future it might be worth it to try a long and short fill stitch instead of the satin stitch, less chance of things snagging.

I got back into cross-stitching after a friend turned me on to this site. Though I think I’d get in trouble hanging up the ones I really want to do at work. Much as the thought makes me giggle with a glee that can only be described as unholy.

I came here to link this, so I shall throw in a random GIS for embroidery on etsy in the sub cat of Science

Nerdy embroidering?

I once saw a guy with Schroedinger’s Equation embroidered on his yarmulke. Hard to beat that for nerdy embroidery.
