Netflix buffering problem - Apple TV

We’re having a buffering issue with some shows on Netflix - keeps stopping every minute or so to buffer.

We get an error message that suggest we change to a lower resolution, but our Apple TV setting is just “Auto,”. We don’t have any idea what would be a better setting.

Any suggestions?

If your getting the feed from wi-fi, you might try Ethernet cable. ThAt always does the trick for me.

Make sure you update the firmware - we’d been having that issue as well. Also, try unplugging the power cord for a bit.

How’s your wifi signal in general? If you can, connect it to ethernet - that’s always a better connection. Other than that, I got nothin’. Hope it works!

Thanks for the responses.

It’s hard-wired - cable connection from our local tv cable company.

Problem seems to have gone away now, but next time I’ll try unplugging it for a bit. Sometimes the lo-tech solutions are the best…

What kind of download speeds are you getting? I’m on wifi and my cable connection shows up as 50 Mb/sec according to speedtest.net. I remember having some stuttering problems with Netflix a long time ago, when I had download speeds closer to 10 Mb/sec.

If it happens again I would suggest that you log into the Netflix website and under the settings area there is a spot where you can adjust the resolution that Netflix is sending to you (put in originally because Canadians live in the land of capped bandwidth).

There are a small number of 3rd gen ATVs that were recalled. Do you have one?
