No list of Netflix Instant Watch recommendations can be complete without Coupling, one of the funniest half hour comedies I’ve ever seen.
zag, you’re right. Hilarious comedy!
I really don’t have much luck with Netflix Instant. It just seems like I’ve seen every movie they put out there or it’s not something I’d want to see. Sometimes I’ll search and search if I’m in the mood for something. I watched Dirty Love (Jenny McCarthy) specifically because I’d heard it was amusingly awful, and it was. Before that I read about Agnes of God so I decided to watch it. Definitely worth my time. I found out Michael Emerson and his wife made a movie called Ready, Okay! and I really wanted to like it but found myself too bored to make it through, even with Michael Emerson. Paper Heart is a cute little flick with Michael Cera and an asian girl I forget the name of. He plays himself, which is just like pretty much every character he’s ever played.
A great while back they had a movie called Disfigured, about an overweight woman and a very thin anorexic woman dealing with their body images. I really enjoyed it but it could have just been a personal thing. It wasn’t that great a film.
Ah yes, and there are tons of seasons of The Office available to watch instantly. Both UK and US, so lets not start a bloody hijack please!
One of the funniest comedies I’ve ever seen is Make the Yuletide Gay.
That Mitchell and Webb Look, a British sketch comedy show.
Archer, an FX cartoon about a highly dysfunctional spy agency.
I really liked I Loved You So Long with Kristin Scott Thomas. It does have subtitles but I thought it was really good.
Last night we watched Trembling Before G-d, which is about gay Orthodox Jews and very good.
Just watched Beer Wars the other day. It was excellent.
For fans of King of Kong I really liked Confessions of a Superhero
Way sadder, though.
One thing I love about Instant Watch is there are a ton of classics.
I just watched A Streetcar Named Desire for the first time the other day. Excellent movie.
Secret Society is one I found amusing, a ypung woman is secreyly training in sumo wrestling while her husbands thinks aliens have abducted her.
Recently have watched “The Riches” The Second season of “Satisfaction”, The fifth season of “Weeds”, Dirty Jobs and Deadliest Catch, Hotel Babylon"
Gosford Park, The Tin Man, The Guild, Irina Palm, Steam, How about you, and 28 days are all ones I quite enjoyed
I was just remembering Letters to Zachary, which you should not watch if you’ve got any spare high ledges handy. Really good, though. Do not seek spoilers.
No, just pretty much don’t watch this if you have kids. Too sad. My wife and I almost melted into our couch during this movie.
Possibly the most emotionally powerful movie I’ve ever seen.
Bullitt, the classic Steve McQueen movie is on instant view, so is Harold and Maude.
Ralph Nader: An Unreasonable Man. I wanted the history of the man in 90 minutes, and it’s pretty tough to sift through anything online about him without finding loads of crap or biased junk. This is a pretty good look at his personality, Nader’s Raiders, etc. Not too much focus on the 2000 election, which is what I wanted. I don’t agree with his politics at all, but found his dedication and his work with cars absolutely incredible.
There’s plenty of Mystery Science Theater stuff on Instant as well.
I love King of California. One of Michael Douglass’s movies that flies way under the radar.
The SO and I are working through the whole collection of Yes, Minister; you’ve probably seen Yes, Prime Minster on PBS; Yes, Minister is the precursor. It’s funnier than Yes Prime Minister to me.
Also it’s called Dear Zachary - my bad.
ETA - particularly difficult viewing if you have a sociopath in the family, I might add. The boyfriend wanted to watch it - he’d heard that it was sad, but the “twist” in it took us both by surprise. It’s like a kick in the gut. Normally I’m not super spoiler-avoidant, but you don’t want to know that one going in because part of the point is that you experience the same shock as the subjects of the documentary.
Agreed. Fantastic but completely devastating.
I love Neo Ned. It has Jeremy Renner as a skinhead who falls in love with a black woman who thinks she’s Hitler. It sounds silly, but it completely works and Renner is amazing. Being John Malkovich is a must-see- I wish Spike Jonze and Charlie Kaufman would never stop making movies together. The Girlfriend Experience is another good one- about a call girl dealing with the bad economy.
I just watched Chocolate yesterday, and it was a fun no-brainer karate movie with (I thought) a really different premise. Take a look!
