Netflix Instant Queue Recommendations - the movie thread for people with no patience

Yeah, if your heart doesn’t break listening to The Hulk you’re made of stone.

We just watched this based on this recommendation. Agree with everything you said. Very good doc, quite sobering, and sad. Also, pretty gross.

There are more than 50 episodes of Mythbusters available on Instant View. It’s a perfect show to watch while exercising, because the way the episodes are structured allows you to watch the show in small chunks without feeling like you’re leaving loose ends hanging.

Plus, explosions.

I’ll second:
Beer Wars, King of Kong, King of California and the Nader documentary.

I’d add Jesus Camp, The Devil Came On Horseback, Primer, 11:14, The Boondock Saints, The Man From Earth, and Word Wars.

Ooo Ooo, crawlspace jogged my memory (with Jesus Camp) of Save Me. Documentary of a guy in his mid 20’s being sent to a “conversion” camp for gay guys. I thought it would be campy, but it was really enlightening - his interaction with the couple who run the camp, him trying - and convincing - the audience he really was changing, and them him subsequently meeting another guy at the conversion center who changes everything. If most of your gay friends and relatives have been met with open arms by their family and friends, you won’t know the torture so many go through - really interesting.

Opal, should we be inserting links so people can click directly to the Netflix page? Or would that not work, since we’re logged into our own accounts.

My father highly recommends** Doc Martin**, it’s a tv series akin to Northern Exposure about an English surgeon with no bed side manner being sent to rural Wales. He says the characters make the show shine. I can’t vouch for it myself but he’s interested me enough to watch a few episodes.

I finally got around to watching the last 10 minutes of A Certain Kind of Death. It’s very moving and also very odd, the lengths a faceless, soulless bureaucracy takes to do the essentially meaningless task of finding next of kin for the abandoned dead. On one hand it’s completely callous and on the other hand it’s very tender. Very good documentary. (Seriously, though - gross.)

The links should work, and they’d be nice to have, but they’re not necessary.

Louis C.K.: Chewed Up if you want a stand-up that’ll make an hour on the exercise bike fly right by.

Also, one I watched a lot while working because it made the time fly by was National Lampoon’s Vacation. That movie never gets old.

I just rewatched The Specials, a movie I caught on cable some years ago and really liked. It’s about a C-list superhero team, but it’s not a superhero movie - there’s no action, it’s about the people in the team.

Hey, I’ve been meaning to see this, and now thanks to you bringing to my attention that it’s on Instant Watch, I’m watching it now. Thanks!

State of Mind

It’s an amazingly free documentary that was filmed in North Korea. The director claims that the government did not edit or censor their footage.

It’s about kids training for the Mass Games.

It’s very engaging.

Ooo ooo, I remember this thread.

The People vs Larry Flynt. Very interesting, if not completely historically accurate.

Lots of the Best of SNL by various people. Will Ferrell seems like such a throwback now. I haven’t watched Belushi’s yet.

Raising Arizona, The Jerk, and The Insider, with Russell Crowe and Al Pacino about the massive leak of tobacco documents on 60 minutes.

And finally, the best recommendation I have, that just recently became instant is…

As Time Goes By Season 1 & 2! Judy Dench is hilarious. The average rating is 4/5 with 100k ratings. Go watch it now!

In case anyone missed it, Netflix just signed some big billion dollar deal with Paramount, Lionsgate and one other studio I don’t recall to start streaming their stuff starting Sept 1.

I watched 2 seasons of Pushing Daisies

Let the Right One In is a horror/romance but it has subtitles so I don’t know how feasible that would be exercising. Ditto for the Swedish Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

Leverage season 1 and Lie to Me season 1 are good streaming too.

The Tudors - awesoem Showtime series about Henry VIII

Pillars of the Earth - great new Starz series based on a novel of historical fiction set during the Anarchy (King Stephen)

Archer - great animated adult comedy

All of the Buffy, Angel, Firefly / Serenity, Dr. Who. If you need more sci-fi there’s also Farscape.

Dr. Horrible’s Singalong was freaking awesome. Must watch.

Dead Like Me was a great Showtime series about a girl who became a grim reaper (comedy/drama)

Man on Wire is also a must watch http://instantwatcher.com/titles/16860 100% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes - about tight rope walking across the twin towers

Great Comedy - Eddie Izzard Dressed to Kill, Daniel Tosh - Completely Serious, and Joe Roga (Live)

Seconded. I ran across this one by accident and it really is quite good.

I was in documentary watching mode this weekend and really liked This Film Is Not Yet Rated and Lord Save Us From Your Followers.

+1 on This Film Is Not Yet Rated.

In light of the new deal with more movies on Sept 1 (and the point where my Instant Queue is truly brimming with quality stuff) I’m considering a Roku or Wii. Used, of course. Anyone done this and love it? We’d trim our 2-a-time dvd plan to 1-a-time.

I stream Netflix on my PS3 so I can watch on my living room TV. It’s awesome. You can search the instant watch by title and they also hav categories of movies or shows to browse, usually 75 titles at a time.
