Netflix on Saturday?

Hey, since when does Netflix operate on Saturdays? I returned a disc yesterday, and already got an acknowledgment of the return this morning, and my next disc is listed as shipping out today. Woo-hoo!

Since forever.

What surprised me was when I mailed a disk the Saturday before President’s Day, they got it on the Monday – a post office holiday – and I received my next disk on Tuesday. Sure not clear how they managed to do that.

They’ve recently started testing Saturday shipping in some parts of the country. I’m not sure why they have to test it, though. Isn’t it just a matter of figuring out what it will cost (paying people to work Saturday, operating the shipping centers, etc.) and then deciding whether it’s worth doing? I can’t imagine that they’ll get any complaints from subscribers.

They mailed movies to you on Saturday for arrival on Monday before a couple of weeks ago? If so, you were the only person they were doing that for.

Not from me, that’s for sure. I can only guess that they didn’t make a big announcement about it because, if it’s a “test,” they may not keep it up.

Wow, this would be great. Anyone know which areas are being tested?

Due to our work schedules, Monday night is our best night for watching movies together at home, but based on the no Saturday shipping, Monday is often the night we are most often stuck with nothing to watch.

I don’t think he’s the only one. I’ve had Saturday shipping for a little while, as well.

Short news story discussing this.

Based on the hackingnetflix.com article, they’ve only been testing Saturday shipping since January, so not quite forever. As for how you received a movie the day after President’s Day, the short answer is that the postal holiday was not a holiday for the Netflix staff.

The long version (this is a WAG so don’t hold me to it): The movie you sent on Saturday made it to their post office box that same day. Post offices leave the door open on weekends and holidays so that box holders can collect their mail even when the office is not staffed, so their staff collected the returned movies, processed them on President’s Day and then prepared the outgoing movies for the postal service when it opened at midnight on Monday/Tuesday.

I’ve never had Saturday shipping either. It’s gotten to the point that I rarely am bothered to send anything back on Thursday night/Friday day because I know I can just put it in Friday night/Saturday day and I’ll get the same results. But I’ll start sending them back earlier if they operate on a Saturday.

I can’t believe this is new or rare. Routinely got things thru all weekend. E.g., sent in Saturday, received Sunday and next one sent out same day, got the next one Monday. So even Sunday is no big deal.

I received a disk today. Nothing new here.

Yeah, that’s not what the OP is talking about. Receiving on a Saturday is no big deal, since the movie was mailed out from their facilities on a Friday. The OP is talking about instances where Netflix receives the movie on Saturday, then process the new movie for receipt on Monday. Usually, Netflix doesn’t process on Saturday.

That’s impressive, given that the US Postal Service doesn’t operate on Sundays.

I retract my “woo-hoo.” The disc reported mailed on Saturday didn’t arrive today. :frowning:

Here’s another netflix query. I accidentally sent back one of my own discs in one of their envelopes. Is there any way to get it back?

Their phone number is 1-866-716-0414. They can probably answer that better than anyone here.
