I was looking around their site, and I didn’t see any indications that they sold to Canada, but maybe I missed it somewhere. If they don’t, what are services like this that are applicable to Canada?
From their Help section (don’t know if it’s even accessible to non-members):
So, sorry. No Netflix for Canada. You’ll have to wait for somebody else to tell you about other services that do. I can’t find a simple answer about Walmart’s rental service, but I’d guess that they do not, since they also ship just through the USPS.
As a quick hijack:
Does anyone know how their DVDs are packaged? Do they fit into a small apartment complex mailbox? I don’t want to have to go to the post office every time I’d receive a DVD. Also, can the return envelope just be dropped into a regular USPS mailbox on the street? The ones with the, “WARNING if the material you are sending weighs more than…” Just not quite sure I’d trust everyone at the apt complex if I put return DVDs in the outgoing mail area at our apt complex.
Sorry about the hijack, but I think the OP’s question was answered.
I can do this one too. I live in an apartment with ridiculously small mailboxes, and there is no problem. They arrive in paper sleeves, inside an envelope. So it’s all the size and weight of a slightly large letter. The envelope they send also doubles as your return envelope, no shipping charge, and can be put back in the mailbox, droped in an outside box, whatever you’d do with a normal envelope.
The paper sleeve gives a quick synopsis of the movie, and though I sometimes miss the art (and often miss the chapter selection details), it’s a loss I’m willing to take. And if you’re worried that these envelopes are not as secure as a regular plastic case, I have not yet had any scratched/broken DVDs. It’s all been very on the up-and-up.
I’ve been looking into NetFlix type services for Canada as well, and one that looks promising is DVDFLIX.ca. I haven’t actually used the service yet, but the reviews I found were pretty positive. With two young kids, I don’t watch enough movies right now for it to be worth the money, but in the future I’m going to keep them in mind.
I also live in an apartment with tiny mailboxes. They seem to work all right. The carrier folds over the envelope until it’s the size of the disc and slides it in, and I fold it again when I put it in the little ‘out’ slot.
To be sure, just check and see if a DVD disc without a box fits in your mailbox. As long as it does, you’ll be okay.
