Nevada Democratic Debate February 2020

I just cackled. “You can join me at Bloomberg.com, but I’m not asking for any money.” HA!

He’s smarmy, that’s for sure.

Well I listened from out of the room, didn’t see it, and I think Nixon won.

IMO:

  1. Pete
  2. Liz
  3. Bernard
  4. Joe
  5. Amy
  6. Mike

I couldn’t understand the screaming protestors; could anyone? What were they yelling?

What were the protesters shouting?

What the hell were those people yelling just now?

Agreed mostly.

I think I would flip Joe and Amy.

Hard to say. Buttigieg beat-up Klobuchar pretty good but when she could just do her own spiel she was better than Biden.

That’s how I’d score it too, but the gap from 2-3 was tiny IMO.

For prep work and being pro at getting their desired points across, I’d give Pete and Bernie the edge but Liz’s points were great and well-made and she did well with off-the-cuff remarks too.

Supposedly they were shouting about the millions of deportations under Obama.

She really handed Bloomberg his ass on his issues with women.

What was the protest about?

Aye; Senator Warren was prepped and ready to go on that and she did it beautifully. The help from Biden didn’t hurt either.

Warren kicked ass. Biden did better than normal. Pete did well too.

Bernie had no answers about how to pay for his plans which hurt him.

Klobuchar and Bloomberg were the big losers tonight.

I think the top two were Pete and Warren, hands down. I wouldn’t mind seeing a ticket with both of them on it, in whichever order. (Or Buttigieg-Abrams).

Biden was just looking older and more crazy-eyed than he ever has before.

Tonight was the night I think I realized that Bernie’s speaking just really grates on me. I used to find it charming or whatever, but it would be hard to listen to that for four years.

I’ve never understood the appeal of Amy, but tonight just showed me what a weak candidate she is and how awful she would be against Trump. She has absolutely no presence, which I always knew, but tonight she revealed what a glass jaw she is.

Bloomberg bombed hard, but I’m not as confident as some that he’s toast. His money can still carry him pretty far, I would reckon. And if he was going to have an introductory debate bomb, best to work out the kinks ahead of a primary/caucus that doesn’t mean much for him personally. He didn’t look good at all against the other Dems, but I’m still not writing him off (yet). I think he could actually do well one-on-one against Trump. Question is if he can get there from here. His stock is definitely gonna take a dip after tonight though. ETA: He truly was not prepared to answer on the racial and women’s attacks. Stunning. He better prep better going forward on those. When it came to actually talking about what he would do on various issues, he was fine.

Side question: Is this Bloomberg’s first debate with this many people on stage?

Yes.

My takeaway on Bloomberg is he is the rich kid coasting through while all the others did their homework.

Bloomberg just seemed massively ill prepared.

Frankly, if I were him, I’d use my money to affect the election from the sidelines whhile enjoying drinks and good meals.

So there were never any NYC mayoral debates with multiple candidates?

Theres no ego boost in that.

  1. Warren. She was on fire!

  2. Pete. He came across pretty well.
2a. Bernie. He did the Bernie thing.
2c. Biden. I thought he actually seemed pretty sharp.

  3. Klobuchar. Just didn’t seem like she was playing in the same league as the four above.

  4. Steyer

  5. Gabbard

  6. Bloomberg. I was hoping to see him implode, but that was a dumpster fire beyond my wildest dreams. Nate Silver: “He came across like a really rich guy who isn’t used to talking to Democrats”.

Biden was the worst. His attempts to ride Obama’s coattails were transparent and pathetic. His constant pronouncements of “I’m the only guy on this stage who…” were almost SNL-worthy. He just seems pissed off that he’s still having to battle it out.

He was younger then. More likely to still do the work.

He is older now. It is probably harder for him to tell himself he need to get up at 5a and then do debate practice till 9p.
