Never been to Costco? What huge businesses/experiences have you foregone?

I thought of this when reading a thread about Costco food courts - never been to a Costco and have no desire to. Despite one being maybe a block from my work. Haven’t been to Ikea either.

So what other businesses/experiences (defined however you wish) have you entirely eschewed, despite having the opportunity? (No “I just went there once a long time ago.” Or, “I tried it but didn’t like it.”) Never used Netflix or Amazon? Never go to a National Park or Disney World? Never eat an egg other than as an ingredient as in a cake? (That’s another one of mine.)

Feel free to explain your choices, and feel free to tell others what they are missing.

Never been to a Disney.

If food counts. Mine is soda. Anytime I mention to someone that I don’t drink soda, I almost always get the same response. Usually something along the lines of ‘me neither, I only drink one or two sodas a week’. To which I’ll explain that I don’t drink soda at all, ever, period. I’ve drank, maybe, a half a can of soda in my entire life.

For me, it’s that I can’t stand the carbonation. Beer is the most carbonated thing I can drink. I can drink tonic if it’s in something (ie gin and tonic), and for a little while I was drinking whiskey sours with squirt. But you’ll never, ever, ever see me drinking a soda, ever.

Same goes for coffee. You’ll never see me with coffee or anything with coffee in it. I tried to force myself to like it and just couldn’t get there. Plus, every time I tried, it made my throat itchy, so I likely have a minor allergy to it as well.

Also Game Of Thrones. Never seen an episode or followed a discussion about it. The entirety of my knowledge of it comes from memes I’ve randomly run across.

Harry Potter. My ex and my kids were all over it, but I never read a word of it and remain completely ignorant of the story and characters. Not that I object, it’s just a giant can of worms I’ve chosen not to open.

Food definitely counts, but, just my opinion, if you even TRIED soda and coffee, that doesn’t quite fit the OP. Sorta like, “I only went to the Costco once, but left without buying anything.” I’m looking for complete avoidance. (But, I realize the OP has no control over the thread that ensues.)

Maybe I tried - or was fed - an egg at some point before my memories begin, but I can recall as a really young kid almost gagging over the smell/idea of eating eggs in any shape of form. But I’m clearly not allergic as I can eat cake, cookies, etc.

Never eaten an oyster and never will. I’m not into phlegm. In fact, all raw fish is completely off my radar.

I tried to watch a Harry Potter movie once, but it was just too juvenile.

Never been on TikTok or Reddit. I signed up for Twitter for the sole purpose of mocking Trump when he lost the 2020 election, but am no longer a user.

I don’t have a voice-activated anything other than my phone, although I was mildly interested in Alexis for a brief period.

I’ve built up quite a substantial supply of basics (food, paper products) from Meijer’s and their frequent specials, such that I doubt that any of the 3 warehouse membership outlets would have been any cheaper.

The only time I’ve ever been inside a Walmart was to take a dump.

Uber, Door Dash, etc. We got a pizza delivered maybe 20 years ago but that was by the pizza company. Since then, no food delivery. We don’t eat out much so why would we want the same food delivered, but not as fresh and a lot more expensive?

Never been to Wal-Mart.

Never been to Europe. I’ve traveled a fair amount within the continental U.S., but I can count on one hand how many other countries I’ve been to, with fingers left over: Canada, Aruba (honeymoon), Jamaica (just this past Winter). My two sons, 19 and 22, both took trips to Asia and have visited several Asian countries, so they’re more internationally traveled than me at this point.

It’s not like I haven’t wanted to do more international travel; I could give reasons why it hasn’t happened more, various family and life issues, but bottom line is, I just never got around to it. I hopefully I have enough time left to make up for lost time and travel more in the future.

Like @wguy123 I’m a never-user of doordash, uber eats, etc. But not because I never eat out but because I nearly always eat out. That’s my social life; why would I want to kill it by sitting at home alone? And worse yet, eating cold mis-handled restaurant food I paid extra for them to mishandle?

Never read a word, nor saw even a second of vid, of Harry Potter, LOTR, or any other similar fantasy universe stuff. No never for Netflix, Hulu, etc. No Star Trek after TOS. No Star Wars after the first two.

No Cheers, no Seinfeld, no Roseann, nor most other post 1975-sitcoms or serials. No Sopranos.

Never set foot in a Chick-fil-a, much less eaten their “food” “product”.

For me Costco and Walmart were both walk in once, walk out once, buy nothing, and promise never again. So almost per the OP.

I could go on, but probably shouldn’t.

I manage to have a pretty vibrant life anyhow. It just avoids all products of the hype machine.

Come to the UK first and then visit the other European countries, Rail or air travel can be (if booked in advance) pretty cheap and easy.

We have a more-or-less common language, which makes the transition easier. We still welcome Americans, so no need to buy a Canadian flag. I

Thanks for the invite; I may take you up on it one day!

The really sad thing is, my mother came over to the US from the UK with my Grandparents when she was around 13, and I have many relatives in Britain and Scotland. The really cool ones who used to come to see us in America when I was a kid have pretty much all died off though, and their kids and grandkids wouldn’t know me from Adam now. A grand tour of the UK when I was in my 20s or even 30s would have been the perfect time to go.

Never been to Costco, Sam’s, or IKEA. Disney is my idea of hell so won’t be visiting the Magik Kingdom while I am alive. Never seen Game of Thrones, Star Wars, or Star Trek.

Never been to IKEA or Costco.

There are certain places that unaccountably stimulate my lower gastrointestinal tract, but Walmart is not among them. Lowe’s on the other hand…

I just went to Costco for the first time this past weekend. My wife has had a membership for two or three years and buys stuff online (like our new dishwasher last year) but the closest stores are 30 miles away. She had a list of things she wanted to get so we drove up to check it out.

It is overwhelming for a first timer! The place is huge and there is no store directory or map, so you have to wander around the whole store figuring out where everything is. Which I’m sure is the point.

I have played and participated in all kinds of sports - but never been skiing. It’s not the cold, I have ice skated, played hockey, sledded and snow-mobiled. It’s not the height, I have hiked and rock climbed. Just find no appeal in skiing.

No Costco.
No Harry Potter (I’ve seen bits of the movies when someone else is watching, but it was pretty much background noise.)
No food deliveries other than by the restaurant itself.
I shop for my own groceries - I don’t want someone else deciding what tomatoes I want.
Never been camping, tho I’ve done its equivalent on our boats - spending the night at anchor.
Never gone skiing. My brother was going to take me one time, but a sudden warm snap ruined that trip.
Never dated in high school, so never went to prom or anything. No clue why - I’m a delight!! The boys just weren’t interested, I guess.

Yeah - I also have never used Uber Eats, GrubHub, etc. Can’t imagine why folk would spend such a premium for food, but apparently many folk feel differently.

And I’ve never owned/used an Alexa or whatever. I prefer going through the monumental effort of reaching for my laptop, over having some device listening to me all the time.

Never posted a Tweet/X-thing, or Instagram - tho I think I’ve periodically followed a link that led to an Instagram site.
