Never been to Costco? What huge businesses/experiences have you foregone?

Another “no oysters” member here. Don’t want to eat something if I have to dig it out of its home.

Never joined Twitter, or X, or Tiktok, etc. I don’t think anyone’s interested in my tweets (are they called eXcretions now?) and I’m not interested in the Reader’s Digest Condensed Version of someone’s thoughts. IIRC, there’s some sort of strict character limit which precludes real discussions.

Longtime Reddit-or, but mostly on hobby/interest specific subs. It’s like a larger version of FQ for me.

Never been in a Costco, but only because there aren’t any near me. For all I know it’s a great store.

No Harry Potter for me either. I like science fiction, but not magic. Feel the same about religion. Once freed from my parents’ attendance as a kid, I’ve only entered churches for weddings and funerals.

No Echo, Alexa, or other listening devices in my home.

I swore I’d never have one either, until I discovered how much safer it is while driving. So I do “talk” to my truck, asking it for directions, or to play an audiobook or music.

Since the OP asked about huge (and I assume, common) experiences:

I’m mostly apolitical, so have never been to a protest or political rally.

We went on one cruise ship in 1983. It was a crowded, floating tenement crewed by beggars constantly wanting a handout. Occasionally we were dropped on some island to run a different gamut of beggars wanting tips. Never, ever again.

I’m in awe that you were able to accomplish this. Wow!

My list of nevers
Too far to drive just for the pleasure of visiting…
Costco
Sam’s club
Trader Joe’s
Whole Foods
ETA- never been a Prime customer.

Experiences I’ll never miss
Getting “waxed”
Tanning beds
Plastic surgery

I’m in a similar boat… the last time I ate fast food of any kind was KFC, around 2007. It was also the last time I ate anything that was fried, deep fried, or breaded.

I’ve never had the slightest interest in reading Lord of the Rings. I saw the Ralph Bakshi film adaptation, but not the Peter Jackson ones.

Never tried an air fryer. Crock pot/slow cookers pretty much scratch that itch for me.

Never:
Used public transportation (no busses, trains, subways, or ferries)
Used an Uber or Lyft
Stayed at an AirBnB or Vrbo
used an iphone
eaten MOST seafood (discovered a fish allergy at a young age and doctor said ‘don’t experiment. Not worth anaphylaxis/death’)
eaten/been to Chik-Fil-A
watched The Sopranos, Game of Thrones, Twighlight series, or John Wick

I’m sure it was more that there were no dates worthy of you.

I believe the term of art is Xit, pronounced “shit”.

I’ve never had a job that required me to wear anything more than a t-shirt and jeans. And I’ve never worn a suit, either. I’ve worn a tie maybe ten times in my life.

They’re huge, of course. What I like about them is they carry quality products at reasonable prices. Not just food, but also clothing, electronics, OTC meds and curated wine. Costco makes little sense if you live alone, or even for a couple unless you own a stand-alone freezer.

I’ve never been to either In-N-Out or Jack in the Box. That’s largely for reasons of location–there are no examples of either place within hundreds of miles of me–but it counts.

Never set foot in a casino, and have no desire to. I’ve been close enough to the door of one to see inside, and it struck me as my idea of hell on earth. See also Cruises.

Never used any recreational drug apart from alcohol, including marijuana.

Never watched a single episode of The Sopranos, Breaking Bad, Mad Men, Arrested Development, and no doubt several other popular shows that I can’t think of right now.

Never been to a Hobby Lobby, since I don’t patronize ChristoFascists.
Never have taken an Uber, but I do use Lyft.
I’ve never owned an Apple product, but my wife had an Ipod once, years ago.
Never saw Titanic, though we had a VHS tape of it.
Never used an drugs marijuana or harder, though I lived in Cambridge in the '60s early '70s and there was typically kilos of it in our hall lounge. Never interested.
Never been on TikTok or Instagram. Was on Facebook for a short time, but quit and uninstalled it.
Never saw or read Hunger Games. Ditto for Twilight.
Never had any food delivered. I’ve been visiting people who did, but they’ve never been to our house. If I want food out I want to eat out. Mostly we cook better ourselves.
Never been to a Sam’s Club, don’t even know where one is, but I do love Costco.
Never had grocery store delivery either. I’d rather pick my own produce, thanks. Not even during Covid.
I never saw the last two Star Wars movies or any of the Star Trek reboots after the first. Never plan to. I got burned once already.

Wait nothing fried or breaded at all?
No bacon, French fries, mozzarella sticks, cheese curds, wing dings, chicken fried steak, schnitzel, fried wontons, onion rings, fried eggs? How long do you want to live like that😜

Nope, none of those things.

I have never listened to an entire episode of any podcast.

Never learned to drive, owned a car, had a car payment or loan, insurance fee, licence, never pumped gas.

Never woken, (very rare exception) to an alarm clock.

Never owned any bathroom scales.

Never joined a gym.

Yeah, next you’ll tell us you forgot about the summer you spent as Sous Chef in a French Bistro.

I’ve done most everything listed by others, but I haven’t been to a Hobby Lobby or Chick Fil A, and don’t expect to any time soon.

I’ve never been in Cliff Clavin’s kitchen

I knew the SDMB was populated by cranky curmudgeons, but wow. Starting to get a Gary Larson vibe:

I will add “never been on a cruise and don’t want to” to my list, but would seriously consider a small ship cruise to otherwise difficult to access places like the Galapagos (there’s also one I have an eye on that sails from Argentina to Patagonia through the Straits of Magellan). Maybe a river cruise when I’m too old to do anything else.

Regarding Ikea: yes, it’s a cult and I’m a member. I went to the grand opening of the first Ikea in the US (Plymouth Meeting, PA in the early 80s). Because I was accidentally wearing Swedish colors I got entered into a drawing and won something like $500 in furniture. Been hooked ever since.

Makes me think about Garlic in a whole new way…

… or potatoes.
