Ok, it’s 5 AM and I just got done watching Galaxy Quest for the 4th or 5th time. What a great movie (and that’s not just the beers talking). I love it. Any other sci-fi fans out there got a place in their hearts for Galaxy Quest? As much as it is a parody, it also shows exactly what sci-fi is there for. Not only that, but I’m pretty sure you can see Tim Allen’s little friend early on in the movie, but again, that may just be the beers.
So, let’s hear it for the best science fiction movie to come out since Gattaca.
Hip hip horray!!!
Oh, and another great line: “What are you doing?!?!?!? Is there air out there?? You don’t know!!!??!?!?!?”
Not only that, but the flick caused hysterical giggling in this household during the first episode of “Enterprise”. The scene of the shuttlepod carrying Archer to his new ship in spacedock just had to include scraping it, didn’t it? Another case of art imitating parody.
“ohhh, that’s sick!” (Not a good line, but a great line to say."
And Signourney’s comment about why they build those damn traps deep in the spaceship was worth the price of the ticket.
“Galaxy Quest” and “Zoolander” are two of the best comedies I’ve seen in the last year, except for Ewan McGregor warbling “Your Song” in “Moulin Rouge.”
I loved this movie for many, many reasons but one of the best is: tong! The noise the mines made when they’d hit the ship and bounce off never fails to get a laugh.
Much credit to Tony Shalhoub for an outstanding role … “Um… just thought I’d let you know that they’re telling me… ah, that the engine’s can’t take much more. Just, ya know, FYI.”
“THAT EPISODE WAS POORLY WRITTEN!!”
Incidentally, remember when they were about to jump through the traps, and Sigourney Weaver blurted out, “Screw this!” If you look at her while she’s saying this, you can tell her mouth is actually saying, “Fuck this!” I guess the producers decided at the last minute that they wanted to release the movie with a PG rating instead of PG-13.
Not by the science fiction world – it won both Hugos (voted by the fans) and Nebula (voted by the writers). The film did fairly well at the box office, too: $41 million to make, $71 million in the U.S.
Few recent movies have made me laugh so loudly. And the DVD bonus tracks are actually worth seeing. (Along with the Thermian-dubbed version )
Count me in on he Galaxy Quest bandwagon – not only is it funny as hell, not only is it a dead-on parody of its target, but it manages to entertain without (IMO) shredding Star Trek or its fans, and it gives the characters a good dose of heart. The cast and the fans may take things a bit too seriously, but when push comes to shove, they manage to pull through and do the right thing.
