The Galaxy Quest appreciation thread [spoilers]

So, I just watched this for the nth time and I was struck by what a great movie it is. Acting, script, story, effects, cast, it works as a stand alone movie that you only need the vaguest awareness of Trek fandom to appreciate, yet it’s full of nods and winks to the faithful, well done all round.

Sooo, share you favorites scenes, quotes, alternate casting fantasies, whatever.

I’ve just noticed that when they’re trying to get to the reactor to shut it down and they come around the corner to the giant illogical chompers that Sigourney Weaver’s says ‘well fuck that,’ although the audio track says ‘screw’ that. Nice.

“Does the rolling help?”

“Yes, it helps.”
“I see you’ve managed to get your shirt off.”

“That was a hell of a thing.” Sums it all up nicely.

‘Oh, that’s not right!’

“By Grabthar’s Hammer…what a savings.”

“WHERE’S MY LIMO?”

What a great movie. I gave it a “10” and there are very few movies I give a “10” to.

Looking over the quotes section at imdb, it occured to me that this entire movie is really just one long quote.

It hits all the right notes at being a parody of Star Trek without being mean or cruel about it. It’s a wonderful send up of the Star Treks and done with a loving touch.

“It’s all real.”
“I knew it!”

My fav has always been:

But to add more to the OP, my 2nd favorite scene:

“Did you guys even watch the show?”

With an all-star cast and quality writing Sam Rockwell still manages to steal every scene he’s in.

Try to fashion a weapon!! …can you make a rudimentary lathe?

"Hey guys, there’s a red-thingy moving toward the green-thingy. "
I think this was the movie that introduced me to the greatness of Sam Rockwell.

I decided to look up Rockwell, since he was so damn familiar looking, I was sure I’d seen him in something else.

Turns out the only other thing I’d seen him in is Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, and I’d have never have pegged Guy and Zaphod as the same actor…

There’s a better rated R version that we’ll never see. Like when Weaver says “Fuck this” and Tony Shalhoub’s character is clearly meant to be smoking weed the entire time.

those poor people…

While you’re at it - throw this at them too.

“We gotta get out of here before those things kill Guy!”

I saw this in the theater and loved it, but the best experience seeing this was at the World Science Fiction Convention in Chicago. Nothing quite like seeing a film where everybody in the audience knows and loves the film and gets every reference.

Likewise.

He’s one of my favorite actors working right now. He was also “Wild Bill” Wharton in The Green Mile, and did an awesome job in Duncan Jones’ Moon.

And then hits glorious homage by having him out-Kirk Kirk; it’s tongue in cheek, sure – but right up through to the shoulder roll on the convention floor saving the day, it’s hard to beat “And what you fail to realize is: my ship is dragging mines.”

“Look! I have one job on this lousy ship, it’s stupid, but I’m gonna do it! Okay?”
