The Galaxy Quest appreciation thread [spoilers]

“Guy, you have a last name.”
“DO I? DO I?”

“It’s a rock! It doesn’t have any vulnerable parts!”

Fantastic movie. I never really got into Star Trek but it’s still hilarious purely on its own merits and also has a lot of notes that resonate with any sci-fi fan.

“It turned inside out.” “…and it exploded.”

It’s one of my favorite comedies too. Every line is fun, but Tony Shalhoub’s “That was a hell of a thing” is my favorite for some reason. He steals almost as many scenes as the great Sam Rockwell.

“Hey guys, I just wanted you to know that, the reactors won’t take it; the ship is breaking apart and all that… Just FYI”

I consider this better Trek than some actual Trek movies.

“That’s right again. That’s… come on, group hug.”

“Sure, they’re cute now, but in a second they’re gonna get mean, and they’re gonna get ugly somehow, and there’s gonna be a million more of them.”

“The show must go on.”
“Damn you.”

“That’s not right.”

I love this movie, but I can’t watch it without crying at the end (reentry and landing scene).

I am no Sam Rockwell fan to be honest, but every science fiction fan should do themselves a favor and watch Moon. Rockwell truly surprised me there.

I have been watching Star Trek,TOS on Netflix and it is amazing how often the quote “I see you managed to get your shirt off” comes to mind.

Love the movie, and my enjoyment is boosted by George Takei’s comment. He once called it “a chillingly realistic documentary.”

Holy cats! Sam Rockwell is Guy, and Zaphod, and the main character in Moon? My mind, it is blown.

“Where are you going?”

“To see if there’s a pub…”

These words of wisdom have helped me in many occasions.

He’s two of the main characters in Moon.

Whoa.

Years ago, a friend point that out about Tony Shalhoub’s character, and it makes it much easier to understand the character.

Woah, I was there, too! The writers’ acceptance speech upon winning the Hugo award was a hoot, too.

I heard Guillermo del Toro on NPR a couple years ago and he mentioned this movie specifically.

He actually pointed out that, in a way, it’s one of the best movies he’s ever seen. Comedy is way, way harder than drama or horror. Galaxy Quest, to him, is one of the few frame-for-frame perfect movies he’s ever seen. Every second is perfect and the whole thing works so well.

It really is an amazing movie.

“Maybe you’re the plucky comic relief. You ever think about that?”

This is a movie I never get tired of. It’s just the perfect Saturday afternoon movie in every way.

He was perfect in Iron Man 2 also.

All of my favorite quotes are already taken, but I have to throw Alan Rickman into the amazing “scene-stealing hacks” (ok, there’s another good quote that no one got yet) ring.

I just love the utter weariness of everything he does - twirling a makeup brush into his eyeballs, the expression he gives his dinner, rolling his eyes at everything the captain does, and then at the end when he really actually gets into it, all wide-eyed and manic. God I love that man.

I think my favorite throw-away scene is the cut-away of the giant rock monster floating off in space. He looks soooo happy to be weightless, and to have caused such carnage, and then thwack cut to the spatty minion on the windshield.

Just classy all around.
