I recently bought the ‘Supercluster’ box set and am remembering what a great band they were, really unappreciated IMO. looks like they have a new album coming out, first album since 1990 I think…
one of my fav old tunes of theirs, Meet The Witch: Big Dipper - Meet The Witch.mp4 - YouTube . ‘Craps’ is such a great album
I had never heard of this band, that I can remember, until just a few days ago when I happened to see them mentioned in one of the Amazon.com customer reviews for another album, and the “someone who likes bands I like also likes this” association was enough to pique my interest.
Do you have a recommendation as to where I should start with Big Dipper? Supercluster, or one of their older albums (or wait for the new one)?
hi, thanks for replying I thought this might sink down with no replies!
the Supercluster box set which I think is $15 or thereabouts might be a good start because it has their 2 best albums (‘Craps’ and ‘Heavens’) plus their debut EP, and a bunch of b-sides and unreleased tracks. 3 CDs in all.
they also did one major label album called Slam that wasn’t very good. I paid around $60 for a used CD in the late 90s - the most I have ever spent on one album. not worth it sadly! (now it’s going for $0.01 on amazon)
there’s also a preview track off their new album here: Stream Big Dipper - Robert Pollard by Almost Ready Records | Listen online for free on SoundCloud
(never heard of that Shakespeare’s Trip band but checking the soundclips they do sound similar to Big Dipper)
